Hey guys I'm new to oc and looking for a new Bjj gym, and I must say that I'm pretty lucky cause there's so many good ones here. I do already have a few gyms in mind there's Tinguinhas in Anaheim (the mans a legend and videos are really well instructed so I'm sure he's a hell of an instructor) there's Leo Vieiras in la habra (legend and one of the all time greats and personal favorite of mine) and Ralph Gracie OC is getting alot of recognition so they must be doing something good. If I can get some feedback from anyone who goes or has gone to these gyms or any other good places in OC I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks guys and happy rolling

Cool thanks hanedog I'm living in Fullerton and they're close to finishing up a gracie barra Fullerton which is 5 minutes from me any info on that? Instructors, courses, ect? And I'd love to check out anyplace that's by the beach who's the instructor over at gb costa mesa?

huntington beach has like 10 gyms, chuteboxe, ultimate training center, GB, Gazze academy, Boran BJJ, A-Team BJJ...etc...way to many lol.

I like GB the best, good schedule for me, as well as a great instructor.

Sorry dude, don't know anything about GB in Fullerton. In Costa Mesa, Mike Buckels is our guy. He's a top notch instructor and one of very few American BJJ BB's in the area. Plus his MT is SICK.

Side note - I have a friend at Leo Veira's in La Habra...he LOVES the place. If I lived up there, I'd check that out for sure.

Welcome to So Cal. I think we have more academies than anywhere else. I'd suggest taking a month and visiting every single school to find a fit. Hit me up if you make it down to GB in CM. Everyone knows me by Haney - Good luck!

I believe that Erik Paulson's awesome new MMA and Submission Grappling Gym is also in Orange County.

Depends where you are in OC.

Check out Allan Goes Academy in Mission Vieiajo. Obvious reasons.

If youre in the Northern part of OC near HB, Cleber would be the best option.

Cleber Luciano is a stud. There is no other way to put it, despite being in the same gym with Chute Boxe, :D , he is top notch and would surely be one of the best choices.

The guy is downright impressive.

If you're in Fullerton, I would definitely hit Paulson's. It's a good school, and it's actually in Fullerton (off of Palm and Imperial). They do a lot of grappling, and last I checked they were actually doing some jiu-jitsu with the Gi.

Thanks for all your inputs so far guys I definitely writing these places down and I actually have checked out paulsons already the place has a lot of great mma talent and the facility is huge and affordable but I am looking for more of a pure gi & no gi based gym traditional I guess you can say (plus I'm 5"11 160 lbs and the guys I saw at paulsons were huge lol) but I do recomend it for anyone wanting to do more mma or pancreation plus the place has everything and very affordable

^ check out Cleber than bro.

Very traditional, and a very very solid team here in So. Cal.

Here was a recent thread about an individual (sherdog member) who toured around Orange County to find the best jiu-jitsu academy that worked well for him. Perhaps you will find the answers you are looking for.

By the way, he settled on Ralph Gracie Orange County.

Definitely come check out Ralph Gracie OC. We were just voted the Best Martial Arts in the OC by MyFoxLA HOTLIST. Very, very friendly school. Everyone here is willing to help eachother. No egos, and some very top competitors. Classes taught by Black Belts Bruno Paulista and Brad Jackson. One of the larger schools in the area. We have jiu-jitsu, no-gi, muay thai and boxing classes. All jiu-jitsu classes are 1-1/2 hours long. We allow you to start sparring after three classes. No need to wait till you have three or four stripes on your white belt, and no extra money added to be able to do live training or take no-gi or muay thai and boxing classes. We do not charge extra for anything, including belt testing and belts. Also, once your class is over you don't need to just leave. People go upstairs after class (if there is another one going on downstairs) and spar together or just practice moves. Free trial class and first month is also free. No long contracts. Before you make a decision on where to train, definitely stop by and try a class. Signed up thirty people in March alone and four tonight. No joke. Also have 220 inch screen with high def and surround sound to watch UFC. Seriously one of the best. Ralph Gracie OC, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Orange, OC, Anaheim, Chino, Chino Hills, No Gi Jiu-Jitsu - Home. Check the schedule. Open seven days a week. (Yeah, I'm the one who answers the phone and gives all the info, in case anyone was thinking I sound like an advertisement) Oh yeah, 714-632-7880 or 1-877-55-GRACIE if you have any questions!

currently it is kind of a split between lucas and marcel, mostly lucas though....leo is in brazil i believe, he just left after pan ams but will be back before worlds. yes it is with check mat. we also get all kinds of guests that are high quality black belts like the mendes brothers and a few others that are great as training partners and instructors. great atmosphere, great training partners, and great instructors.
