anybody here from Dallas? what is the best bjj gym in Dallas, preferably Richardson area - Gracie gym, Mezger Martial Arts or Cobra BJJ?. and by best I mean the one that really makes you work for your belt, none of this mac dojo bullshit.

I used to go to Paragon Dallas. I don't know if it's still around or not but it was always a fun place to train.

I live in Deer Park Texas and I'm thinking of switching gyms, there is this one annoying blue belt who I train with. Normally I just tune people out but this guy is annoying as fuck. First he's a heavy weight and rolls a bunch with 12 year olds, he always shows up to family rolls to. I find it weird. Also we are close to the same size and the instructor always puts me with him to drill, his gi always smells like mildew and sweat.

Then when it comes time to roll , hes leaves to the bathroom while I wrestle all the higher belts and the instructor , then he only asks me when I'm dead fucking tired if I want to roll. Then when we roll, he smells like mildew and rash cream. Everytime we roll, I'm dead tired and hes always fresh. I still control the Match but I can't tap him when I'm that exhausted. I showed up to family roll and he was there and said he can't go nogi because he got hurt singing at some concert thing for Iraq war veterans. Then 30 min later hes on the mat rolling with this white belt that barely started.

Hes always bragging about banging hot chics and how his dad is a real lawyer. Super annoying ....

Kingdom Jiu Jitsu in Garland has some great people there. I am pretty sure they are almost if not exclusively gi but still a great bunch.

Another gym is Corvo Martial Arts in Richardson. Good group of guys there as well.

There are a lot of gyms in the the DFW area so you will have plenty of options.

@NateTx4112 is an Alvarez bb. His gym is fairly new but growing quickly and doing well in tournaments. I've rolled with some guys from there and they were all good. He, however, is a homo. But maybe train with him anyway.

Man, you need to move. I'm from Deer Park / LPT. Left as soon as I could. Absolute shit hole.

How is the training there these days?

preferably Richardson area
Brazilian top team Dallas is technically in Richardson (it's West Richardson near the Far North Dallas border).

Great coach who doesn't hand out belts and supports his team competition wise. Also a ton of variety (dedicated Gi, No-Gi, Wrestling, and Muay Thai classes).

It's 100% the go to gym if you live in Richardson. The other two popular gyms in Richardson (Gracie Gym Richardson and Corvo) are too new and don't have near the established student/coach body

If you don't mind driving to Plano, check out Sharpen Iron Academy. Great instructors and the mix of student levels is good. They just upgraded their facility, which has tons more space for different classes to be working at the same time.

Why do they call it sharpen iron? Are they blacksmiths or something? They better have a fucking anvil.

Ricardo "Demente" Areau is in Plano Texas. He's a Robson Moura Black Belt and former UFC fighter.
I met him a few years ago at a RMNU Camp and he was instantly likable. Bruno Bastos and him were teaching a segment during the camp they liked to call "Man Size Jiu Jitsu". The two of them were funny as hell together and the technique was amazing.

Last year I was in Richardson, TX for work and dropped in. His old school a pretty small but recently moved into a larger, nicer school.

He's as legit as it gets. No McDojo there. Go try it out an let me know how it turns out.
