This video is an attempt by Steven Williams to bust myths having to do with using bjj in street fights. Does it answer any questions for you guys? Are there points you agree or disagree with?

I think Burton Richardson's BJJ for the street training video explains things in a more realistic and humble way than this YouTuber. Richardson does a good job of explaining how police use BJJ when making arrest. Its not the same as the way people train for sport because you can do things that will get you disqualified or cause you to lose points in a sports match in a street fight. There are things you need to learn to avoid getting bitten by a stranger if you are using BJJ. In street grappling you can grab the other person's fingers or use your hand to push them by the throat.

One thing that people take way too far thinking it's an easy way to shut down a grappler is the idea of eye gouging.
I mean, if someone has dominant position like mount or back mount, I don't see the other person managing an eye gouge.
Maybe they could from bottom of side control, but not if their arms are both trapped.

Thanks I'll look it up!

just as important- if I’m getting my ass kicked by a bjj practitioner and I try to gouge his eyes and it fails, that dude can decide that turn abouts fair play and use his superior grappling to control the position while he literally blinds me.

Bas Rutten had an argument with a martial artist who claimed that an RNC wouldn't work on him because he'd just stick his thumbs in his opponent's eyes and blind him before he was choked out. Rutten offered to meet the guy and put his theory to the test. But he warned him that the moment his thumbs came anywhere near his eyes, Rutton would break his neck.

He declined Bas' offer:)

People always mention eye gouging, biting and ball grabbing etc..

All have happened to me. All the people that did it ended up taking ambulance rides.

I still have a scar from the guy that bit me. I bounced his the back of his head off the concrete a half dozen times like a bowling ball while my fingers were stuck in his mouth.

After that didn't work I Kevin Randleman Pride style kneed him in the head 3 times which opened a vagina like gash on his forhead.

After that didn't work I picked up his nextel i1000 and stabbed him in his eye with the short stubby antenna and then wedged it inbetween his teeth to pry my hand out.

The guy started crying and had a mental breakdown and ran down the road. He then started hitting his head on a store front and KOed himself. I had to call an ambulance for him.

I 22 or 23 and working as a doorman at a little lounge. This dude was in his 30's and like 50lbs heavier then me. In hindsight the guy was wasted, prob on drugs and had mental health issues (nobody talked about mental health back then).

A lot of the people I beat up at clubs and bars probably had some kind of mental health topics that the drugs, booze and alcohol made more apparent.
