I bought a pair a few months ago for a broken toe, couldn't even tell you what brand for sure. Asics, I think. I had a pair of Nike wrestling shoes in high school. Both worked well enough that I never had to even think about them.

Is there really much of a difference in terms of performance?

Id say so. Lots of shoes feel quite a bit different in terms of traction, weight, flexibility and comfort. Whatever feel you like, youre gonna do better if youre more comfortable.

Idk bout boxing, but id assume youd want something higher?

asics, for like $50 were my first pair of wrestling shoes. they lasted 2 years or so of pretty continual use. can't complain at all. to this day, they're the only ones i like to wear

I'd love them but cannot find them anywhere in the UK.

If you found a shop/site for me I'd be delighted!

You can't find them pretty much anywhere anymore. Ebay may be your best bet. Sorry for not being helpful. Anything Asics/Adidas should do the trick, the best thing you could do is try different models on to see which ones feel best for you if you can do that in a walk in store. Also you should keep in mind the difference between split sole and full sole wrestling shoes where the split soles often provide more flexibility and the full sole provides more traction.

If you are only looking at those two shoes, I'd go with the Split Second VIII.

If it helps, a few years back we overnighted a pair of Split Second VI or Split Second VII to a boxer that had a fight the next day on HBO. So I assume he was a pretty big boxer.

biting the bullet and going for the Ultrateks. hopefully one day I find Adidas Combat Speed IIs in my size

For boxing is different than wrestling I'd say. Adidas makes a good pair of boxing shoes, the same shoes used for wrestling aren't quite as nice. Look on a boxing website primarily.

Asics are the best for wrestling.
