I'm in the market for a good muay thai heavy bag. What is the best brand to get and yet still be relatively inexpensive?

Anything that is real leather, I hate the feel of all the synthetic shit.... Twins heavy bag is the greatest.

Best: Fairtex HB6 6' bag or KO Fightgear 6' bag.

Best dollar value: Title Classic Banana Bag, linked above.

KO FIGHTGEAR hands down. Completely rag filled, same feel from top to bottom, not too hard not too soft--juuuust right. 100% vinyl and hand crafted. Plus Neil is a great guy and easy to do business with. I've had my bag for a good two years now and it still looks brand new even with daily beat downs.

the bags that come unfilled, what do you fill them with?

Either clothing off cuts that you can buy, some people fill them with shredded up tyre/rubber or old clothes.Or you can fill a pipe with sand, seal the ends and put it into the centre of the bag and stuff clothes etc around it.

anyone else heard anything about the bags mentioned above or any other bag?

Latley, I've bene investigating a good Thia heavy bag. So far, KO Fightgear offers the best bag at a great price. Quality stitching with love put into every creation, KO Fightgear looks like the premiere Thai bag company.

I emailed them with a few questions and the owner (I think), Neil, is polite and answered my questions in detail, even when bringing up the cheaper Title banana bag.

Subject: Sherdog Reviews

After reading page after page of Sherdog reviews about KO Fightgear products, I am convinced you guys are one of the best MMA gear manufacturers out there. I am interested in purchasing a KO FG banana bag, gloves, and shin guards. I've set aside enough cash for the bag, but may wait until I can get the whole set.

I do have a few questions:

1.) Do you recommend your gloves for bag use or purely sparring? Our gloves are used for both bag work and sparring but as all manufacturers do not recommend the same gloves being used for both applications.

2.) How do you recommend I hang the banana bag from my garage ceiling? This guy from Sherdog recommends a tri-system: http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f16/best-way-hang-thai-bag-garage-townhome-1203700/ I am unfamiliar with this system and there are some great inventors out there that come up with concepts that do work well. Our recommendation is the joist hanger which we offer on the site. It is quite stable and secure and is rated for a bag up to 300 lbs. If you take a look on the site you'll see that it is a recessed flush mount which is bolted to two opposing joists.

3.) What's your secret to great product at a great price? I purchased some Ringside IMF's that had a factory defect for $39.99. The regular price is $100, but from what everyone is saying is that your gloves are worth $100, but you charge less than half that without a factory defect like Ringside. That's incredible. I was going to purchase the Title Banana bag for $90 as Sherdog says it's great at the price. But I think I'm leaning to pay double to get a product I know will last me.
We sell our gloves at a promotional price to give people like yourself the incentive to try our company. We've had a number of customers over the years that first purchased the Title bag and were diappointed with their purchase, and then picked up one of our bags. I'm not familiar with the current Title bag. Our thai bags and tear drop bags are truly commercial grade, low production, designed for function and durability over the long haul. These are bags that a professional fighter would be quite comfortable training with. If you check around the net, I believe there are some independent reviews about our bags.

4.) How do your shin guards compare to Thai-style shin guards? By Thai-style I mean the focus on padding below the knee and above the ankle. I see your stitching is top-of-the-line. I am still on the fence as some companies like Top King have first hand experience in using and creating the shin guards. I suppose my question addresses not the quality of your work, but how personal experience with kicking has helped your company form your product. We have a pro styled shin pad with excellent protection for the shin.

Thanks in advance for your time!

how does synthetic leather compare to real leather in terms of long term durability? someone also told me that with real leather if there is moisture issues in the area that you have leather, it will mildew. Does anyone know if that's true?

Title classic banana bag is wonderful. Great bag and a great price. I reviewed it.... And may have to update. Had it since oct. 2009

Is red the only color you can get if you purchase a Title bag?

Good catch. I was thinking of the leather gloves when I wrote that. Correction will be made.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm pretty new to this stuff and decided to purchase one of these tonight. They currently have free shipping on this bag so I got a steal on it.

I've hit a bunch of different 6' bags:

KO - Average fake leather shell, great stuffing

Ringside Full Leather - alright stuffing, good leather, the 1" foam made a nice feel.

Fairtex - good fake lather

Raja - bad fake leather

Top king - average fake leather

Everlast - terrible all around, it settled within a month and you could feel bags of sand

Cheap title/ringside - terrible shell

Over all Ringside's leather was the best I hit, however, KO is the best for the price.
