Movies Best horror franchise?

Nightmare on Elm Street because I like it but also because most of the films were at least decent.

The George Romero Dead series deserves a mention.

6 official movies. The first 3 are absolute classics, Land of the Dead was pretty good, followed by Diary of the Dead which was okay, and Survival of the dead which was the only really weak official entry.

The 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake was also really good.

The series also has the rather dubious credit of having more unofficial sequels than just about any franchise going. From good ones like Zombi 2, to the whole of the "return of the living dead" series, to some of the worst drivel released straight to VHS. There was a time just about every zombie film released had "from the makers of night of the living dead" written on the cover, no matter how weak the connection was.

The first 2 are amazing! I probably prefer 2 to 1. 3 is good, but then it's downhill.

Actually that's pretty true for most horror sequels lol.

Candyman is a great trilogy. All 3 are good.

The Ash v Evil Dead series was gas.. especially S2+ S3

In terms of consistency it's probably The Evil Dead. Three classic films pretty much everyone loves, a solid remake, a good tv show, and a pretty good movie in Rise. Rise is the weak link but it's better than the worst movies of most franchises.

Child's Play has pretty good consistency given the same writer has written all the movies (save for the Universal re-imagining/remake) and the tv show.

Im partial to Nightmare on Elm Street as I grew up on that franchise. I have the box set and have seen them all numerous times. Everyone considers the original and Part 3 the best of the franchise and rightfully so. I think part 6 is the most underrated in the series.

I also feel like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre has had a lot of good entries (some real duds too). The most recent remake that went straight to NETFLIX was a damn fun movie. It got away from the dark grimy feel of all the other recent films in the franchise and splashed in some humor and I thought it worked great.

Nightmare on Elm Street would be the correct answer . It’s very difficult making an entire different take on several movies with one theme they managed to to do it just about every time making each movie feel like it’s own separate refresh idea .

Based on numbers of movies which was 8 it’s this one . I mean it’s definitely overkill but they didn’t become stale and make sequels just to make them ,decent story each time and interesting characters kept it fresh enough .

Not as popular franchises like The Step Father 1/3 was great to .

Horror as a franchise? Got to go with Halloween I guess.

Maybe the best ratio of good vs bad outings in the big ones (Halloween, ANOES, and Friday the 13ths's), The killer cut of '09's Friday the 13th reboot was my favorite of that franchise, and Freddy vs. Jason is one of my guilty-pleasure movies.

Amityville Horror franchise had moments of greatness (Ryan Reynolds can actually act). The only movie that ever actually scared me was the first Phantasm, I saw that flying spiked ball flying around the crematorium and it freaked the fuck out of 6 year old me, walked in the room while my father was watching it. Since then, most scary things have been meh. Haven't even watched the Conjuring or Insidious lineups to even hazard an opinion.

Final Destination deserves a nod.

Predator, Alien and Evil Dead initial offerings were all horrors, but then all switched it up to sci-fi or barely more than dark comedy, My wife likes the "I Spit On Your Grave" franchise but personally don't see the appeal in that one.
