Hey guys, wanted to see what people recommended for a good cup for muay thai. Recently took up Muay Thai and after years of no cup or using a cheaper plastic one in hapkido and taekwondo i wanted to ask what you guys thought was the best cup to protect my boys.

Ive read lots on diamond mma's cup and nuttybuddy but didnt know what else people thought of those or if there is another cup that wont move around and offers the right protection.
Any advice appreciated!

Purely for muay thai?

Training = Fairtex No Foul Protector, it is a steel cup (much bigger than the plastic boxing version) and allows for easy on and off because you can put it over your shorts.

Fighting = Any steel cup with 3 laces. Sadly, I buy Twins because it protects my balls...get it :/ however, any big name thai brand works perfect

I have a basic twins steel cup and a lobloo as well as a winning no foul protector.

The lobloo is very nice, easy to use.

I use a Bad Boy metal cup:

Very comfy and has saved my boys quite a few times:)

Yes purely for Muay Thai. I heard that the lo bloo isnt that roomy for dudes with a set of hangers..that true? Think it can take a knee to the groin? I worry about these damn plastic cups so thats why i ask.

Thanks for the other recommendations, people seem to like those steel cups for muay thai so i may go that route. Im not as worried about cost as i am about imparing my mobility when sparring AND my ability to reproduce! So a sturdy and powerful cup that doesnt get much in the way is what im looking for.

cant say enough good things abut the steal cup from ring ot cage.

I have a couple of Shock Doctors with the compression shorts which I like.

I have heard great things about Diamond - just a lot of money.

yeah, i've been wanting to give them a try but i find it hard to stomach that they charge $90 for the system AND $60 for a second pair of shorts. it would be nice to have at least 2 pair to cycle through, especially for days you train in the morning and the evening, but $150 is a lot of money when you have alternatives. i'm still using my nutty buddy from years ago with a few pair of cheap compression shorts from target and a few jock supporters. looks like nutty buddy has their own compression shorts too now, but i haven't tried them.

Ironwolf do you feel the loobloo offers enough protection? Seems like a good product and good price. What exactly do you like about it?

how much area do these steel cups cover. I feel like with their shape they may be good just for your sack (they dont move do they?!) but dont cover the taint like some other cups do..a pretty vulnerable area as well.
Guess the balls are the most important but curious what you think.

Also, do you just wear em barenuts and then cup or something in between like compression shorts.
thanks!

Thai steel cup all day. Wear it over your briefs or boxer briefs like me unless you like the rope between your cheeks and the feel of cold steel on your meat and two veg. Also, depending on size and positioning, you may get just a bit of taint coverage with the Thai steel cup, but you won't really need it, honestly (just train your pelvic floor muscles, man -- you and your lady will thank me for the suggestion in about 4-6 weeks of strengthening and conditioning LOLOLOL).

lol pelvic floor muscle strengthening haha. Check!
i ended up ordering the bad boy thai steel cup. i heard it was a bit more roomy for us, em, larger dudes. and as everyone suggested, i went with steel. thanks for the suggestions and i will report back on how i like it!

Sounds like you are concerned mainly about mobility and motility--LOL. My experience has been that the problem has not been so much the cup as the cup holder. The contour cups are generally quite roomy for the well endowed, plus they tend to stay in place better. The villain in my case is compression shorts which tend to allow the cup to shift. Once a nut strays out the confines of the cup, all bets are off.

I stand by my Diamond MMA cup. It is the only cup that is super comfortable and that i know my nuts are taken out of the equation. We sell it on our website now and have been getting more and more Muay Thai fighters throwing their Thai Cups away and now buying Diamonds. I know your Thai cup can't do this:

lol. I highly recommend you look into it!

What? Mine does that, in fact I have had someone break their foot on my Thai cup...

I was thinking the same thing but didn't say anything.

I've taken a near full power knee straight to my Thai cup, and while my junk didn't feel anything, the area around where the cup presses was sore for a couple days. Does the Diamond cup somehow alleviate this?

I think a lot of guys are uncomfortable with the thong aspect of steel cups and try to put them in jock straps and compression shorts. They are not designed for this and will shift around when hit.

The thing with steal cups is the string can loosen if not tied correctly and they take some time to put on. AFAIK in thailand most people use steal cups, the Thais i've trained with don't use cups for training.
I think most people would be perfectly fine with steal cups, i recommend trying it before looking to other options. It's what you would use in a fight anyway.

they really don't take that long to put on though, but for me i just think the compression style cups are more comfortable. i use the nutty buddy now which layers like this: compression shorts --> nutty buddy --> jock strap.
