Reading Marvel's WCW comic--which is great fun--got me thinking about this.
TOUGH and Koku den Tough are pretty good, those are largely about professional wrestling, though they are more about martial arts in general, with professional wrestling just being one of the "styles" focused on amongst others. Minoru Suzuki is a character in the second series, which is sorta weird.
Garouden is essentially about professional wrestling and MMA, but I don't really like the comic that much. The main characters are all jerks and basically bullies and it also has some pretty perverse and bizarre moments.
I read the early issues of the Undertaker comic and those were pretty good, though I wish they'd been more focused on professional wrestling rather than taking the character outside of that context. Same with Steve Austin's comic and Chyna's as well. Of these three, I think Chyna's was the worst.
Marvel's The Thing featured pro-wrestling pretty heavily, as he entered Marvel's Unlimited Class Professional Wrestling, but I don't know if that counts or not. It was pretty good though. I always wished Marvel had a comic about the UCPW.
I don't know if WCW's series is the "best," but it is about professional wrestling, it has continuity between issues and it is really fun to read, at least for me. Its basically the story of WCW wrestlers vying for the belt, with Sting, Ron Simmons and others doing their best but fighting clean while the heel characters of course, do the opposite. There's some funny stuff in the first issue as basically all the face wrestlers happen to be competing in a battle royal for the sake of various charities as well as a title shot.
Anyone else have an opinion about what the best professional wrestling comic was?
