Sort of familiar with the boxing gyms of NYC but know nothing of the individual trainers. Anyone ever worked with or know of someone in particular who is really great? Also open to suggestions at other NY gyms such as mendes, kingsway, church street etc.

Also as a side note I was surprised to see so many MT/KB instructors at Gleason's, has anyone ever trained with any of them or heard about the quality of their Muay Thai instruction? I've read up on most of the MT gyms even heard reviews of Church Streets MT but never hear Gleason's mentioned.

Bump. Everyone talks about Gleason's but never review individual trainers; would be great to get reviews/recommendations on a few of them

I've trained for a couple weeks at a time periodically over the last 5-7yrs at Gleasons (when i travel for work). There's no shortage of good trainers in that gym, there's a reason the gym has the rep it does. I always wanted to work with Buddy McGirt, but never had a chance when I was there. He's no longer at Gleasons from what i hear, opened his own gym in April-May....... again, that's just what I've been told. But having a chance to work with him would be amazing, the guy's world class.

Bobby Beckles is the only one at Gleasons I'm familiar with that does any kickboxing or Muay Thai training and typically it's only by appointment. As for quality of his training, not really sure, but he was a real damn good fighter (understatement) and is an articulate and well spoken guy. I'd imagine he'd be great to work with.

John Douglas and Mark Breland are the only guys that I worked with there (private lessons). John is typically always around the gym. Nice guy, real good with the mitts and definitely knows his shit. Mark was definitely impressive, he really is a technician and a scholar of the sweet science. High intensity, fast paced, great instruction and the workout will kick your ass...... Should he elect to strap on the gloves and do some in the ring sparring with you, you'll end up getting your ass kicked twice as bad. Dudes legit.

Breland is now Deontay Wilder's trainer. I'm not sure they're at Gleason's.

Nice thanks for the reply. All those trainers are still listed on their website but I don't know how often they update it. Will have to check it out.
