we've had in the ufc?

The fight he won the title in, very close fight. I just gave him the edge

The rematch was much easy to judge, Edgar clearly got robbed.

Then he went on to fight Nate which was a terrible style wise match up for Nate, it was no doubt Henderson was going to 50/45 him

Then he got another questionable decision against Gil which he should have lost
and after that he was beaten by Pettis.

As far as champions go, I'd have to easily say he was one of the worse fighters to have held the belt (from fighters who have been champions)

He kind of is because he was the beginning of the " cutting alot of weight " to make 155 fighters that were talented. Prime Edgar could never compete with todays 155ers( top 10).Benson, arguably, lost second fight to him...and has done nothing since. Also, Pettis caught him in a quick surprising sub to get title. I was stoked for that one .... disappointment.

Nobody really rates Bendo, highly, so I don’t think he’s overrated.
Pretty much this, can't be overrated if no one rates you highly. Probably the most forgettable champ to defend the belt at least three times.
As a fighter, I think he’s underrated. Prime Bendo would beat much of the LW decision today
He could crack the top 10 but I don't think he could beat the likes of Gaethje, Poirier, Oliveira, or Ferguson and I could see Islam, CDF, and Dariush all beating him.

If you're only talking about LW champions then yes, but every champion there is Aljo and many early UFC champs that had losses outside of the organization like Pat Miletich.

As " lw champ".... he was rated very highly.
When the talented 55ers followed suit, he wasnt even a top 155er....and it happened over night.
I also, respectfully, disagree with any version of bendo beating any top 155er today. UFC still deep 135 thru 155. Its after that, they have problems.

Nobody beat the shit out of Nate the way Bendo did. That's gotta count for something...

I even forgot that Ben Henderson had that many title defenses. Which shows how highly I rate him. As mentioned above, he is no overrated, he is just exactly right rated. Slightly better, slightly luckier, at the right place in the right time. That's how I'll remember Henderson. That, and for being a very boring point fighter.

He got way too much shit for winning razor close fights, as if he cheated or did something wrong. People act like he got destroyed and somehow won, when all those controversial decisions were simply competitive fights against more popular fighters. The worst decision of his career was actually when he lost the trilogy fight against Cerrone, then it's the Thomson win. I don't even understand why anyone complains about the Melendez fight.

What??
Benson fought all the elite fighters in there prime in wec, ufc and Bellator.
Also, Benson Henderson is a wec and ufc champ.
If you fight the best of the best you can lose a few.

The Melendez fight was a boring jab contest and, that being the case, Gil really didn't do enough to take it from the champion. We all know that there's a long standing unofficial tradition of the judges leaning toward the champion in close fights, so I never understand why people are always ranting and raving when it happens.

Not a huge fan. Smooth was one of the guys who fought to win via points vs. stoppage. Way too many split decisions and UD, only 5 TKOs in 38 fights, no KOs.

He is not that highly rated at all. In fact I can not think of a multiple defense champion that is thought less of.

No one considers him a dominant champ or has him in GOAT discussion. Everyone knows about the multiple questionable decisions. Could this just be old unresolved saltiness?
