Askren plans to move to 185 lbs and talks about the new rules regarding weight cuts at OneFC, the cancelled fight with Sapo, etc.

IIRC he doesn't seem to be the biggest WW and some thought he could even make LW. He says his walkaround weight nowaday is 183-185 lbs. His first opponent @185 is also a former WW according to him.

He better stay at OneFC then. While he might be a pretty good WW in the UFC, he wouldn't fare well against Rockhold, Weidman, Romero, Jacare, etc.

Good luck with that. He should hit the weights.

These ONE FC fighters will be moving up in weight due to the new natural weight structure of the show. Bibi will be FW probably, Aoki will be WW,... If they ever leave ONE FC, they will have to drop back down to their past fighting weight, unless other orgs start adopting this system. Seems like a good idea for safety reasons, having fighters fight at their natural weights.

Fedor and Silva are good examples of fighters that never really cut. And then of course all of the best kickboxers in the world like Le Banner, Aerts and Hoost, Roufus, Macdonald. they just trained hard and had a good diet never cut like a lot of the MMA fighters do today.

Cue the crickets, does anybody still care about this guy? I didn't mind him in Bellator but he's never going to make a name for himself in Onefc, I wish he would either get back to Bellator or hound Dana until he gets signed

what exactly would those guys cut too? i thought K-1 was really just HW division and MAX?

lol I trained with both LeBanner and Hoost and these guy were beasts; Hoost was close to 110, LeBanner probably closer to 120... cut? what frigging cut?

you like the 02 circuit huh? these dude are HWs, never a need to cut weight

I just said they didn't cut. And I said kickboxers. Not just K1, that's no different than saying you compete in the UFC when your an MMA fighter btw also putting words into my mouth K1 is basically heavies and MAX. other organizations like It's Showtime, SuperKombat, Krush that have more of the weight classes though. ISKA for Roufus, Wilson, Alexio and K2 back in the day which was specifically for Light heavies like Rob Kaman, Andre Mannaart, Jean francis and others. For the most part a vast amount of them don't cut weight I was told by my coach who was with all those guys until their gyms split he was Gilbert Balantines sparring partner for 3 of his fights with Ramon Dekkers. He said lighter guys would cut but heavier set guys basically walked around like that
Just going with the jest of what i was told He was with all of them when it was Mejiro gym then went with Aerts when he went to Golden Glory back in the day. They Train hard, work out hard. Than fight at whichever weight they are for the most part. guess I'm wrong from some of the replies but just going with what I was told from a guy that spent a lot of time with them in the 80's and 90's

This guy makes so many questionable decisions. If he goes to MW he should get a title shot, if in Rizin he should fight Halsey (if he isn't moving up).

He's cutting due to the new ONE Championship natural weight fighting requirements. In Rizin he could either cut to 170 again or fight at 185. Halsey cuts to 185 so Askren would probably make the cut if he ever fought in RIZIN. Then Palhares would be the fight to make for him there. Would love to see that one.

Yep; Halsey could never make 185 under the new ONE rules. Halsey would be 205 in ONE. If Askren ever leaves i'm sure he will be back at 170lbs so i'm not sure why we are comparing him to Rockhold and crew.

I agree. Askren would be 170 in any other org.

Yeah that is a tough one if all your wins are equivalent to Welterweight / Lightweight fighters in the UFC / Bellator then you want to sign elsewhere and they throw you in Middleweight just to mess with you since you fought at 185 no cutting in ONE C to let you lose and just say ONE C fighters have no skill / not sign you because you haven't fought at your "weight cut weightclass".
Not talking just about Ben now but ONE C fighters as a whole.

I wish him nothing but success. I used to hate on Askren but then I realized he's just a heel and a troll and his wrestling is top tier, from what I've seen. Among the elite of the elite in MMA.

I reckon Halsey would be a HW. OneC want them to fight at their walking around weight. Halsey is def over 205.

Another div in OneFC with nobody for him to fight.

KSW isnt sending Mamed to fight him so whatever. At this point he needs to fight out his contract and then look at his options. Maybe UFC will be interested or Coker will want him in Bellator.

Askren looks a lot like that Lannister brat grown up.

They should stay in the UFC. They wouldn't be able to make 185 in OneFC.
