There’s nothing in that fight for Masvidal. He’s ranked higher than Askren, and it’s a bad matchup for him. Kind of like there’s nothing in the rematch with Robbie for Askren.

Will beating Lawler again get him a shot? Lawler is now 1-3 in his last 4 with his only win being over a 155 pound gatekeeper. I expect if the UFC guaranteed Askren a title shot with another win over Lawler he would be happy to sign up to fight him again.

Askren needs a win over someone with some rank related credibility. Masvidal just knocked out a guy that was ranked #3 (not that I agree with that ranking) who had just fought for the title.

Covington is fighting Usman, Askren won't fight Woodley, RDA has lost the last 2 fights, Till just lost 2 in a row, Thompson is 1-3-1 in his last 5, Maia is 1-3 in his last 4 and Ponzi doesn't have any top 10 wins.

Masvidal is his only option at this point.

Masvidal is 1-2 in his last 3 and he may be higher on the UFC rankings due to Till's artificially inflated rank but on ranks that matter Till is ranked lower.

Till got a title shot with a snoozer decision win over Stephen Thompson, in fact it was his only top 10 win. It should have put him in the top 10 but title contention? Shows you how weak WW really is.

And yes its a horrible matchup for Masvidal, Larkin, Maia and Benson all utilized a wrestling heavy game to nullify his offense.

Askren just beat a former champ. Masvidal beat a guy who shouldn't have even fought for a title.

And there is a huge upside for Masvidal if he manages to win. Askren is 19-0, just beat a legitimate top 5 guy (controversy aside) and holds belts from multiple other orgs. If Masvidal beat Askren he would be guaranteed a title shot.

I'm really sorry Ben. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I just feel that you will be much more deserving of a title shot if you actually beat Robbie Lawler without Herb messing up. God bless, big fan from Serbia.
