Imagine the amount of fun fans would have if one of his roasting "victims" picked up on his high-school humor and retaliated with similar remarks. For instance, Chael would probably build a narrative around Ben being a nerd who consistently fails at being a jock.

I agree with this 100% but it's worth mentioning that it's a lot easier to be this way when you have several sources of large income coming your way. Does he want to win? Of course. But his livelihood is in no way dependent on it. Has to help with staying a bit more stress free through the stressful process known as fight week.

Many fighters are broke and on edge knowing how high the stakes are so they can make a living.
