When you first started was the skin on the balls of you feet torn raw? Or how about the big toe? I cant even walk right and they are band aids all over them. It wasnt just from one day, it was over the course of about a week.

Yes and it's pretty normal (it shows that you pivot on your feet). After it heals, you should be all set: the new skin will be tougher.

yep tht is completely normal. those blisters will eventually and pretty soon turn into tougher skin and it wont bother you anymore. just deal with it and make sure you wash your feet really good after your muay thai so that way if you feet wont get infected.

I have the same problem now. I wouldn't say that it is much of a problem, i don't notice untill i leave the gym. my right big toe is one big blister on the bottom.

i recommend you go once a week for the first month, twice a week for the second and then 3-5 times a week after that
it gives your feet time to get conditioned and stop the blisters getting really painful
give your body time to recover and you'll be laughin
my mate came with me ages ago, went something like 20 times in 30 days then never ever went again because he was too sore and his feet hurt for months afterwards

Try walking around the house barefoot more often as this will help toughen your feet.

Also make sure your feet are nice and dry before you start training. Arriving down the gym half and hour early and removing your socks will let them dry out in time. You could use the time to get warmed up, shadow box, stretch, put on your hand wraps etc.

See I think my biggest mistake was not going enough the first month. I was going 2 times per week and it seemed like I couldn't get a lot of things right. I switched to 3 times per week and it was like someone turned the lights on... everything started clicking.

If your feet hurt that bad then tape them up while training.

Make sure you clean your feet so they don't get infected. However, don't use really gentle handsoap, it will soften your calluses. A similar thing happens to fingertips when you play guitar, eventually the skin will toughen up. The first step is calluses, then the calluses go away and your left with tough skin that doesn't feel that much different than normal skin, it's odd. If you do grappling your feet will get tougher as well. Also, walk around your driveway in barefeet and around your house, your feet will get tougher. Also, I'd say if you have a bad open sore on your foot, just let it heal for a few days before you go back to muay thai.

I just started kickboxing about a month ago. I used to wear wrestling shoes, but just started trying going barefoot this week. Do you guys train on hard floors or floors with a mat? Is a floor with a mat easier on bare feet? What about when you work the banana bags, do you go barefoot too? Kicking the bag barefeet hurt my toes, even though I hit the bags with my shin.

asian people walk barefoot around the house all the time :)

does that mean i'm destined to ebe a great MT fighter? hahha jk

Completely normal. When it happened to me, the blisters tore off...so I taped my toes for training purposes and made sure to disinfect twice a day. Way to go for toughing this out...it'll all be worth it in the end.

My feet are good to go now thanks for the tips. These werent really blister i had, it was thick layers of torn back skin that was raw. I bandaged it up for the past few days and the gross thing is that the skin has healed back onto my foot and it actually hurts to pinch the torn skin. It has feeling now.

I'm not sure why your toes still hurt when you kick the bag. Are you sure you have your foot pointing down/out when you kick? Only time my foot even comes into contact with the bag is when I do high kicks.

We use mats at my gym and they are pretty easy on your feet. In college I took TKD and we did that on a hardwood floor... that shit killed my feet.

Hmm.. Ok. I do point my toes out/away when I kick. Maybe I'm not kicking high enough on my shins. I'm hitting on the bottom part of my shins, just above my ankle.
