Be honest, do you expect Masvidal to make weight?

I think he has to lose 22 pounds in 5 days....most fighters around that time cut around 10-15 pounds so he is basically 2x the norm. I wonder what that will do to his body and his cardio.

Damn imagine if Masvidal misses weight but wins a close decision or gets a first round KO, and then he doesnt get to be a champion.

Sure... Guy is a smaller 170 that has fought at 155.... Are you giving him the Italy Pizza Curse. ;)

The guy used to cut to 155, he'll make the weight

22 pounds isn't really all that much, I'd expect the first 10-15 to have been cut in the 1st day. I mean hes not that shredded when he weighs in for a WW fight so theres weight to lose on his frame

Where’d you get these numbers?
which numbers? Masvidal himself said he is 22 pounds over the limit when he got offered the fight, and just from training/experience/common knowledge most fighters on fight week are around 10 pounds heavy or so once they begin water loading and sauna stuff.

Obv there are all sorts of exceptions and stuff, but in this certain case, Masvidal has to lose 22 pounds in 5 days, which seems like a lot of weight in a very short period of time....

Holloway i think had less weight to lose when he was asked to fight Khabib....

Most of the weight is lost in the 24 hours before weigh-ins.

When he says 22 lbs he's probably 192 with clothes and shoes on after a heavy meal and lots of water.

Most athletes quote their walk-around weight this way to sound more like big-guys.

i mean those are all "speculations" im just going by what he said... he said he had 22 pounds to lose, i could be wrong, but that seems like a lot more than 90% of fighters cut during less than a weeks time and even if he does it, i think it would naturally have some negative effects from cutting so much weight in a short period of time.

People keep saying "hes a LW dont worry about it" like wut? What does that have to do with him saying hes 22 pounds over? LW or HW u cutting the same weight....

And walk-around is probably closer to in-camp weight and not just the in-cage weight.

He'll definitely make weight. Probably more easily than Usman.

As others have said, he used to cut to 155. He knows how to make weight.

And honestly, Michael Bisping probably had a more difficult weight cut against Rockhold. As Bisping said, you just go into cardio mode. You just start running and doing tons of road work. You clean up your diet. You drink a lot of water. These athletes can easily shed 5 pounds just a few days with road work, diet, and increased water intake.

And cutting 20 pounds in a week is pretty standard for MMA athletes. Khabib cuts 20+ pounds to make 155, so Masdival can do it.

Its not like he was out of shape when he stepped in. He was training with Dustin for Hooker. Being 20lbs over 1 week out is pretty normal. Hes likely within 5lbs of making weight right now.

Of course he will make weight.

It is 117 fucking degrees in Abu Dhabi right now (47c) . It’s gonna be 120 tomorrow (49c).

He will make weight WITHOUT ISSUE.

Literally anyone could drop 20 pounds of water in a week in that climate. The place is a 24/7 outdoor sauna.

I watched part of a men’s soccer game from Orlando Florida last night. It is low 90s in Orlando this week, by the end of the first half everyone on the field looked like they had dipped their shirt in a pool. That’s probably 10 pounds right there in 45 min. I used to drop 6-8 pounds at a BJJ class which had a shitty AC system and was probably 80 degrees max. In 117-120 degree heat I could drop 22 pounds in 2 days pretty easy, 5 days no problem and I’m not a pro fighter and haven’t cut weight since wrestling in HS around 1995.

Easy peasy.

I was re-listening to his Rogan podcast. He said that when he’s in top fight shape after camp he cuts from 182. Said that when he was a LW he used to cut from 174. So Jorge is 10lbs above his usual WW pre-cut weight, but has experience with 20lb water cuts.

Doing the same on a bigger frame (which means more water retention) shouldn’t be the biggest thing in the world, but we’ll see.

I’ll see if I can find it and timestamp later.
