When Nolans Trilogy came out it changed the game/genre. Batman was more "realistic" instead of "cartoony" (not a real word) like the Burton films. However, I have grown to like the Burton films more than the Nolan films on rewatch. With the Nolan films I find more faults with the films where as the Burton ones I find them more entertaining and exactly what Batman movies should be.

I was always one of those that claimed "The Dark Knight is the best superhero movie ever" but i dont think that anymore. In fact I only really care for the Joker causing mayhem scene/getting arrested/breaking out of jail. To me that 30 mins or so is perfection and everything else is decent at best.

Out of the 4 movies i always find myself enjoying Returns the most with my only complaint being how Michelle turns into catwoman. Other then that it has some good laughs, good action, a great cast and it ends perfectly.

Im sure ill be in the minority but give me Burton over Nolan.

Tim Burton's flicks are good but it's an unfair comparison to make just because so much time is between them. Like asking which Batman movie is better, the 89 version or the 66 version. Having said that, Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson's adaptations of Joker > Joaquin Phoenix's. I'll have that debate all day.

A realistic movie about a guy called Batman who wears a cape chasing guys called The Joker?

Burtons are better.

Thats not like that at all unless youre picking the 66 version over the 89 one.

More realistic?

I felt like I was watching Law & Order with Nolan’s films.

The Nolan films are supposed to be more realistic than the comic books, yes. Im almost certain he has stated this

Tied it by voting Burton.

I grew up on the Burton films and I love Returns. People argue Batman shouldn’t be killing people but I don’t care tbh.

And devito as penguin is utterly repulsive. Job well done imo.

Elaborate, please.

Because I picked 89 over Begins. You're saying because so much time is between them its not a fair comparison but then use 66 and 89 as an example which is nearly the same time difference.

It sounds like you're implying begins is better than 89 because it was more recent

To the general public, I think most would pick the Nolan films over Burton's. I think there are some people who prefer Burton's movies, but it's a minority. I like Begins over Batman and Batman Returns over Batman Begins and Dark Knight sits above all the Batman movies so far. IMO.

Returns was the best of Burton Batman films great job by Pffieffer and DeVitto.

The one thing Burton's team did better than Nolan's is overall casting for Batman '89/Batman Returns over Nolan's Batman Begins/Dark Knight. The only casting choice that is difficult to determine who was better is Catwoman. I like both Pfeiffer and Hathaway. The slight edge goes to Pfeiffer but not by much.

Nolan's got the best super villain in comic movie history though with Heath Ledger as The Joker. However, Nolan has the worst casting choice with Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes.

pfeiffer>hathaway
katie holmes>maggie
ledger>jack but both were good

bale and keaton were both good too

Dark Knight is the better of the two but nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Plus Jack and Keaton are great. Still have my original VHS and the promo mugs from the theatre.

Your middle comparison is weird. Shouldn't the comparison be Bassinger vs. Holmes or Gyllenhaal? The thing also is Burton's casting has the second best villain in Batman films with DeVito as the Penguin.
