Yeah but that high kick and knee block....
Wtf
yeah that's just about the worst defence against kicks and knees. Bas is a colorful character but people shouldn't be learning technique from him.
They shouldn't learn takedown defense either because as bad-ass of a striker he was, he had zero takedown defense. Everytime a wrestler went for the shoot on him, Bas went down like bowling pin. Bas learned submission grappling anyway, but his TDD was just non existent
As long as he gets his block above the knee, in the fleshy quadricep, he will be fine. if he doesn't come in and has to block the knee/shin, then he is going to be hurt.Yeah but that high kick and knee block....
Wtf
just because a guy was a decent fighter doesnt mean hes a great coach lol bas has always showed some weird shit although back in late 90s he did have some of the best mma tutorial dvds out there but thats not saying much
bas seems to always try to reinvent the wheel
u think bas was the best striker in mma history? reallyDecent fighter? He was the most accurate striker in MMA history. If we talk about pure striking, easily the best one in MMA.
It's a dutch thing. They prioritise blocks with the hands over checks with the legs. If you want to see it properly in action, look at how Tyrone Spong loads a counter punch up on a received leg kick.
It's not something personally like to do however.
Some things work for old school fighters that you just wouldn’t teach today. Bas hasn’t been a legit coach since forever. He’s much more of a business man in my eyes. Obviously you would get elbowed or snapped into a front headlock position if you ever thought blocking knees like that is a good idea
That being said, the returning off kicks is pretty basic stuff.
not defending him, just pointing out he said most accurate, not the best.u think bas was the best striker in mma history? really
