What's going on everyone, I know its been sporadic on reviews, but that will all change, I have a lot of reviews completed, I just need to post them. I will accompany all new reviews with video, but I think I will post only the written portions in the mean time because I know some people just want to read about what's going on with certain brands/types of stuff.
First of all I want to thank Taskmaster for sharing MMAJoes, its an awesome site! Take a breath TM before you read this, this is review based on the brand and the glove this is NOT a shot at you.
So, I got these from MMAJoes, and the site is phenomenal. I was REALLY leary about buying from them at 1st because I thought it was either a scam, or something was wrong with the gear. I bought 2 items, from them so as soon as the package came in I put my Venum tribals side by side to the Giant 2.0s that I just bought, and everything looks and feels legit. So in this case its just a really awesome site with limited stock, but the items are definitely genuine. The prices are unbelievable yes, but 100% legit. Joes offers super fast shipping and prices that cant be beat, as I typed up this review, I already have another order pending to them as we speak.
So bad boy... I was never a fan I had used some of the stuff in the past and in the great words of GSP ," I wuz nutt imprezzed bye der purfourmanccce"
TM is a Huge fan of bad boy so I was sold on his review of a different model of badboy, so I always like to start at the top and work my way down. Enter the legacy gloves, the pinnacle of the bad boy glove, or so I thought.
The Look:
Let me just say that I think badboy has one of the dumbest looking logos ive seen, I would rather have rival underwear before sporting badboy stuff, 2 eyes that are angry that look like it took 2 seconds to draw... yeah not for me, so I chose the legacy because the logo is heavily subdued.
The leather is NOT high quality at all. Its more of a bonded leather which is a type of composite, but this was disclosed on the description from badboy. The glove itself is split into 3 sections with the middle or center section slightly raised with more "badboy" stuff on it. Its kind of gaudy, but it is subdued.
The thumb looks very winning esque, flipping the glove over like Jamie said, there is ALOT of mesh, opening up the wrist closure there is neoprene which will surround the wrist with some vent holes.
The stitching is all intact, there were some stray silver pencil marks but other than that, no glaring QC issues.
Fit/Feel:
These gloves fit super snug, probably the most snug out of any glove I own. The liner is thick and heavy especially around the finger tips, it feels very blanket like, so your hand will get extremely hot in that area. The gloves get extremely hot, if anyone has used the Hayabusa Tokushus/GSP/Plus these Legacys will actually get hotter than that glove.
The wrist closure is decent bending the wrist backwards, and it is poor bending it inward. My gloves did not flop at all however, these are NOT meant for people with wrist issues. Unlike Jaime, I felt the thumb was probably the best thing about the glove. It sat very natural, no issues, and no awkwardness behind it at all.
The glove offers a REALLY nice fist closing the hand but opening it is next to impossible. So parrying/catching shots is not even an option in these gloves.
The liner like 99% of the other gloves with liners, simply does NOT work. Your hands will scream once you take these gloves off. These are by far the HOTTEST glove Ive ever owned/worn/tried. So if you are a massive hand sweater, these are a no go.
The Padding:
The padding is very awkward, I think they were trying to shoot for something Tokushu like but didn't really come close. This glove is supposed to by 5-layered but I couldn't tell. The outer shell is VERY stiff (Fairtex BGV 9ish) and the hand compartment is medium density.
When punching the bag it just doesn't feel good at all, its weird, these gloves costs $29.99 and it performs at that price. I mean I don't mean to rag on these gloves but I had to borrow my friends Everlast 29.99 just to see because its been a LOOOOOOONG time since I used them. They definitely are better than those, a lot better but I don't know something just feels off, REALLY off on the padding. I got it! Fairtex BGV5. My hand didn't feel good, my shoulder there was a lot of shock to everything. I don't have any issues but I could feel every blow (in a bad way) land on the bag. Doing mitt work isn't so bad because we have air mitts.
These gloves do pop but I'd rather have Reyes or a true punchers glove because they offer more absorption than these gloves do, and you get a lot more pop.
Weight:
Gloves are 10oz, came in at 11 and 1/2 oz.
Pricing:
$29.99 at MMAJoes
Overall:
Im not at all happy with badboy in the past or in the present. It is more geared towards fashion than functionality. There are MUCH better MMA brands if you are set on getting a true MMA brand such as Hayabusa and Venum. I simply can NOT recommend these gloves to anyone unless you are a true badboy fanatic, but there are just so many gloves better than this. Because I ranked the BGV5s so low, these will be ranked equally as low. I just cant see these gloves going for full retail. Even at 29.99 I was disappointed.
