Just curious to see your opinions on whether you think hooks or the body triangle are better once you take the back . sorry if there has been another thread on this or similar to this .

your thoughts ?

I just use hooks - the body triangle is really situational to me so I never use it unless I just find myself in it. I prefer the mobility offered by hooks.

Hooks are definitely preferable. You don't get the 4 points for body triangle, plus your opponent can footlock you. The body triangle can be useful as a transitional position though, it can help you control your opponent and sometimes it can help you get a choke. But generally you should try to get both hooks in whenever you are able to.

Hooks for pure grappling Triangle for mma so you can hold them and hit without the risk of losing position.

Hooks. The only time I use the triangle is on new guys that are spazzing. Slows them down pretty good.

I only use the body triangle in MMA training.

In BJJ I don't want to lock myself completely into any position I cannot get out of.

I find it extremely difficult to release the body triangle. In MMA it doesn't matter since I am wailing away on your head.

Good answers here.

Hooks, my legs don't like to let me work the triangle.

Use to do the body triangle all the time, not so much anymore. Kinda had to force myself to improve my hooks, but it's paid off in the end.

Still use the body triangle sometimes, but not a ton.

body triangle if i can get it. I tap newbys with only the presure from that, and i don't even trie to put extra presure just lock the triangle.

Hooks allow your hips more movement, body triangle locks your hips but restricts their breathing.

Hooks all day!

Anyone play single-hook, triangle around one leg?

I only take the triangle when it presents itself, which is not often because most of my training partners tend to be larger. Plus, there are limited options for transitions with the triangle. But it does make it easier to maintain control, and I'll use it if I can get it. But 95% of the time I'm going with hooks.

I only use the body triangle when I can't get hooks, and I will either let it go for a bow and arrow choke, or for hooks asap. What I mean is, sometimes if I armdrag from closed guard, the person is too tight on me for me to slip my hooks in. If that is the case, it is really easy for me to body triangle and then move to hooks once I've created space.

Hooks to keep them flat in grappling. Easier to get chokes.

Body triangle in MMA for ultimate position control. Not really worried about chokes at this point, I can lock myself into a safe position and let my hands to go town.. maybe sneak in a choke when the opportunity presents itself :D

I prefer hooks because I prefer to rapidly transition between different attacks (i.e. RNC/Armbar/Bow & Arrow) but I have a friend who has under-developed hip movement but "retard strength" so the body triangle works way better for him so it really depends the person
