Awesome Inexpensive Home Made Mats

I don't think they'd be very nice to get thrown on.

I found a DIY on how to make actual legit home made mats and it seemed like it could be done for about half the cost of buying them made. I don't know if I like these. It's basically just "take a bunch of carpet pads and glue them together".

That Judo floor is bad ass! I had actually seen the Gracie ones before but I forgot about it. Having Wall mounted mats would be cool too.

I did also consider camping bed roll mats could be cheaper than underlay, especially if you found a wholesaler, but I haven't really researched it. Most are closed polyethylene foam and you can pick them up cheap. They're also pretty rigid so maybe you could puzzle cut them so they stick together.

decent idea, although it seems like that carpet pad will take a beating without the carpet to help protect it. still years ahead of the shit they are using in the favelas.

Tyre dust and a canvas for cover?

actually anything that's soft enough and can absorb kinetic energy and turn it into heat or sound will do
I don't know if it's cost efficient to make your own polyurethane foam on templates
you can use the cheapest ready made foam you can find for insulating houses and cover it in vinyl or any kind of cheap canvas

Carpet padding is not going to work for anything except the lightest use. It is going to give you like puzzle mat protection. And at that point, it'd probably be easier and cheaper to just buy the puzzle mats.

I've been on carpet padding martial arts floors before. It is horrible for any kind of impact.

a very cheap way to make a sub floor is by using plastic bottles filled with water as absorbent material beneath a plywood floor but make sure you glue the caps on

I've used double layered cardboard boxes, breakdance style, for solo-drills. It was surprisingly soft. I think you could totally do light-medium rolling on it, especially if you added a third layer. Temporary, obviously. But, cheap/free and definitely lasted longer than I would have expected.

As in.. cheapo water bottles? Like tons I imagine? (Wondering if they would hold)

they would certainly hold if you used enough of them the force would dissipate over a large area so they can hold a lot of weight you can step on a plastic bottle it won't break polyethylene is a strong plastic only UV radiation damages it you can leave them with air inside if you glue their caps as with used plastic bottles for recycling
better fill them with water to avoid the sound of plastic
