Austria Bans Burqa, Introduces Mandatory Integration Courses

A new law in Austria will ban women from wearing any Islamic dress that conceals their faces as of October.

According to RT, the president of Austria has also approved a law that will stop migrants who fail to take language lessons from receiving benefits.

The text of the law reads: “Those who are not prepared to accept Enlightenment values will have to leave our country and society.”

The law has drawn thousands of protestors to the streets of Austria earlier in the year but it has been passed by the centrist coalition.

Any woman who wears face-concealing Islamic dress, such as the burqa or niqab, in public places will be fined €150 ($168).

Newcomers to Austria will also have to enrol in an “integration course,” that will last 12 months. This course includes German language lessons, and if anyone refuses, they will not receive benefits. Not only that, they will be forbidden from handing out radical materials, as well as forced to volunteer before getting their work permits. The volunteering rule is designed to make sure that newcomers are integrated into a working life.
