Asians are so smart but why are they such bad drivers?

Is there an explanation for this? Was quick decision making sacrificed for IQ? Are reaction times in asians lower on average? Or is it a lack of situational awareness the issue? Please help

Squint really hard and tell me it isn't hard to see peripherals.

Maybe they are the good drivers and we are just idiots on the road and don't know it.

They are used to driving rickshaws. Cars are still relatively new to them

Because Starcraft isn't played with a steering wheel

Most asians probably don't drive in their country.

Hard to drive in this

What I've noviced the most, is that they never ever pay attention at the speed of other drivers, they think that blinking is enough, even though you may be going 70mph, and they are going 50mph, they don't even care. They should revoke your license for cutting people off.

Na but seriously even asians who havent lived in asia before. Its like poor driving is passed on genetically

the same reason they don't observe personal space when waiting in lines, shopping in malls

it's exponentially more crowded and crazy in their home nations

You should try driving in Afghanistan.....they literally didn't even have Driver's Licenses until like 2011 so not a single person there actually drives properly. Turn left from right lane, driving in the center (both lanes), going the wrong way, etc...

Some Asians come from countries with horrendous driving conditions. There are very few enforced rules, and you just have to get on the 'wavelength' of the traffic flow.

In fact, adhering to rules is actually dangerous as nobody else is.

As for those Asians who have never been abroad. Many families have this us vs them mindset. More so than Americans. By that I mean they focus more on their family and don't care so much about what is out there... Many westerners care more about what's outside their family and how they appear to others.

This transfers to driving. Americans care more about other driver's actions and what's going on out there. Asians are more insular and don't care so much.

I should finish this by saying I'm probably talking out of my arse. But it kinda makes sense to me on some level through my observations.

True.

I find that african american people don't know how to drive too.

Inb4 "racist"

I lived in Bangkok for 3 years and the problem was not the drivers as much as the volume. So much traffic, but no one ever used their horn as it was considered rude. I’ve sat at a red light for 20 minutes once. The whole intersection was jammed all that time.

I’ve been in over 40 countries and I’ve seen bad drivers everywhere. Nairobi probably takes the cake for me.

I mean, I don't know how the signs work, but that just looks like an intersection. With Asians driving through it.

I always felt the same way in Germany, regarding Germans and personal space

like if you are in a line, and aren't immediately standing ahole to bellybutton (or nut to butt) with the person in front of you....they assume you aren't in line but are straggling and will cut you.

Same w/ walking in a plaza or mall, people don't follow the 'walk on the side of the thoroughfare that you drive on' rule and just cut paths across people.

That being said, they don't find it rude if you do it back to them, so it's a 'get on my wavelength' thing like some guy referred to up above

Do you know how hard it is to keep your eyes on the road when you're reading a math book?
