Folks know what the President said every few seconds on twitter, but do people know who their local city councilor is? Do folks know who their local school board trustee is?

This guy here says he knows which pundits might make someone like Ted Cruz feel bad, but that he couldn't tell anyone who was on his local school board. Idea being that getting wrapped up in the theatre of national politics is not the same as being "politically engaged"

- Any thoughts?

Those city councilmen can be a real problem- especially if they are as dumb as Tito. Poor Huntington Beach.

Good Question:

I have been a precinct person and elected officer in my local political executive committee.

I have managed and volunteered on local races from City and County Commission to State legislature.

As an attorney, I help my friends when they run for Judge.

Politics are for guys who cant get women.
If you're getting ass on the reg, would you really care about taxes or malnutrition or vagabonds.
Fuck no.
Hey this guy says were sending to much money to Cheklastan?
Does he? Well Cheklastan aint going to get you laid, and either is that guy, so fuck em both, you know what Im sayin?

100%. The only way to filter out fascists is doing it from the ground up.

- Local politics here is a way to get a cushy position, and after that open a busines that will negotiate and offer "jobs" to goverment. I've seen several guys doo that, they all ended doing the same thing, and one of my biggest critics is that anyone here can be a politician without a degree or a trade course.

Golf courses are sometimes more useful than any other courses

I wonder if it has to be that way

Without my glasses I thought this said fecal politics. And the answer is yes and yes.

Yep, local politics is the best way to actually make a difference in your life politically speaking.

Also it's hilarious how inept some local politicians are. Most can't even give a solid platform why they should be elected other than "I think I would make a good mayor"

I watched all the local debates, not just mayor but down from that. I need to know who I'm voting for. It's a small town with a bunch of whingebags.

But yes, we had our House Speaker Kevin McCarthy vacate so we had to elect another and for that my first vote as a US Citizen was for a Republican.

Nah, the area I live in is deeply blue and nothing will change that.

Local politics will really make you jaded. It's probably the shadiest area, especially in small towns. Most aren't competent at all to be sitting on council. Ideally, the best mayor or parties on city council should have past experience in either development or owning/running a business. Instead, you typically get people who were never anything and they want a taste of power.

Do you live in a big city or a smaller city? As much as local politics suck, I'd say one of the best parts about it is that it's not red vs blue as much. You are typically voting on development which should be bipartisan.

My towns politics have been on point for a long time. Our mayor is retiring and it's worrisome. I streamed my first school board meeting. Being able to watch at higher playback speed helped

Where I live, we're more defined by county than by city. Clusters of relatively small cities and towns.

From my experience, the election process can be red vs blue, but an issue can have strong support and strong opposition within the same party. Solar leases or development of data centers would be an example.

I also tell people because they tend to forget, but politics is like ant career. Entry level is local politics and the shit you see there is wild.

Most politicians people know are quite late in their careers and effectively the best of the crop.

I'm married and have dated many women.
I've always been involved in some capacity. Yeah there are some socially awkward people in politics, but it's not all what you're saying it is.
