...to start contemplating Alex fighting Israel in MMA?

Note: I am NOT advocating for him to jump the line at all!

I am merely asking if we start to think it is a possibility in a more realistic way!
I mean, at first, I thought "Yes, he beat Israel, but that was Kickboxing, two completely different sports".
Then "Well, he has to climb up the ladder and fight someone good enough for me to be able to measure him properly"...

But Bruno is real.
He was on a 7-0 (17-1) winning streak, and was a solid test for him.

Now I think he needs to show he is becoming more well rounded with TDD, some grappling/ground game... and that is just a matter of time. The more he fights, we see more improvements. But one thing for sure: If he can keep fighting standing, he can beat anyone in this division!

Thoughts?

Alex is already 34. If it happens, it should happen in the next couple of years before he starts to slow down.

I know Bruno is dangerous but Alex didn't exactly blow my hair back with that performance. That said, I might be a bit unfair because I had extremely high expectations
This guy is the flavor of the week.

Sherdog gonna Sherdog.

He hardly looked like the killer he is hyped up to be. He is nowhere near Izzy at this point.

Look, I don't disagree he did not look like world beater... but think about it.
He is getting a far better opponent in a new sport, and he was able to beat him.

We demand of him Anderson Silva type of highlight wins yet.
He has 6 total MMA matches!

That's why I am not advocating him to jump up competition. Let him climb the ladder, it will give him time to learn more, settle down on this sport.

I thought he lost the fight last night.

Didn't look impressive, at the very least.

He fought very good competition in Bruno Silva and showed some improvements last night.
I don't agree with him getting Cannonier, that's unfair to the rest of the division.

Someone like Hall, Weidman, Jack, Edmen, or Till.
If they want to rush him towards the top 5, I'd say make him fight someone who's coming off a defeat there like Costa or Brunson.

He's still adjusting to MMA. Give him a bit of a slow build.

If izzy fans think Alex has no chance then Izzy should take the fight and beat this 2-0 guy+ avenge the ko loss right?
2 birds with one stone

I agree, I don't want him helped up. Yes, he "should" ask for the top of the division, but he must climb on his own merits IMHO.

But I don't want to see the UFC give him only strikers (to help him). I want to see him beating wrestlers too. This is MMA. he should be competent everywhere.

I like to see Alex fight more but promotion needs to be selective with his matchups. He got taken down way too easily. I am trying to think of matchups where people will not exploit that weakness. Even half retired and Chinny Luke will do evil things to him.

No... I don't want this fight yet.
I mean, being honest, I do want to see this fight.
But I want Alex to get there deservingly.

Let him improve more. This is a new sport.
It is also unfair to throw him against Israel while still adjusting to MMA.

Well if they match him up with a striker in the top 15 next(Edmen, Tavares, Till or Hall for example), they should give a grappler after that if he were to win that fight introducing into the top 15 ranks.

There's guys like Jack(Coming off a defeat) or Brunson(Coming off a defeat) that would test his defensive grappling pretty well.

Nobody will make that fight. It's like giving title shots to Dennis Hallman for Matt Hughes, Ryo Chonan for Anderson or Joe Duffy for Mcgoober. At least these fights are within the same sport. Kickboxing isn't MMA.

agreed.

But I would go lower (meaning those ranked 10-15)...

Imavov would be a good test.
Or maybe Edmen (Shahbazyan) or even a welcome back fight for Weidman....

If he wins, then he'd fight someone from the top 10 like you said.

Izzy decisions him with ease. Khazmat is the real threat.

Gastelum would be a good fight and would get him in the rankings with a win. Then a fight with Brunson to test his grappling. He's about to turn 35 he doesn't have a whole lot of time. I think he most likely loses before he gets to Israel.
