My unbleached shoyoroll is by far my favorite gi in my rotation and I'd like to wear it at the upcoming ibjjf tourney here. Would it be considered a white gi?

Emailed and face booked ibjjf and still haven't gotten an answer?

I know the Shoyoroll Count was an unbleached gi and was deemed not IBJJF legal. So that's my assumption. Then again Navy gi's were interpreted to be not legal under the most recent rules and I saw a couple guys wearing them at the San Francisco Open yesterday.

The count wasn't unbleached, it just had embroidery in apparently not legal areas.

Navy blue is illegal now too?

My bad I saw a reference somewhere recently about them being unbleached.

The rules state Royal Blue, white, and black. It originally stated blue and they later clarified it Royal presumably to avoid any confusion about the color.

I dont get why gi color matters so much

Whilst that is awful there cant be many sports that tell you what coloura youve got to wear. team sports excluded

Your from England? I can name one of the largest sporting events in the world, held in England, that has a strict color dress code........

Guesses???

A lot of the combat sports require colors. Wrestling is red/blue, Judo is white/blue, Boxing is red/blue, etc.

i wore a navy one at pan ams last year and at the NYC open and i had a white and navy one for nationals.. never had an issue with the color. as long as it doenst resemble an off color (green, purple, yellow) they havent really said anythign

i thought the count was legal? pretty sure ive seen pics of people competing in it but i could be wrong

Regardless of what anyone says here Id bring a spare.

Unbleached cotton fades from a tan color to an off-white, whereas bleached fades from white to a gray-ish color.

Unbleached > bleached. Just wear it in a bit before competing.

What are the benefits of an unbleached gi beyond simple aesthetics?

They look a little dingy, in my opinion.

Unbleached should be a little bit cheaper since there is one step less in the manufacturing process.

Also unbleached should theoretically last longer since bleach weakens the cotton fibers. I am not sure that the difference is noticeable though.

Yes, should be legal.
Unless its a new rule for 2013, tjeres that Japanese dude, (forgot his name), always compete in a unbleached gi with no patches, black belt.

Yeah, but all those color codes are for ease of spectators and referees. The rules for jiujitsu aren't
