Are UFC reaches exagerrated like heights?

It seems like most fighters averagely have really long reach considering that they're generally two inches shorter than listed. So are reaches exaggerated as well? And by how much?

EDIT: yes I am aware that reach also includes shoulders. I just used the wrong words.

Most people don't have a triangular shaped body and don't have reach longer than their height. It seems as thought everyone in UFC has a reach longer than their height which is simply not true.

4-5 inches would be my guess.

Reach is also shoulder width, not just arms.

Probably.
Also many fighters probably even care less about measuring their reach than measuring their height correctly (if they don't exaggarate on purpose) and just take their height + a few inches since apparently everyone does it.
Gus was for a long time listed at having the same reach as he's tall and then he got measured and had like 80inch reach he probably just didn't bother to measure his reach

Its believable to me. They are at the highest level of competition in a sport where reach is an advantage. I am only 5'9 and have a 70" reach (and I do not have broad shoulders.)

so seeing lots of 5'10 5'11 guys with 70-74 inch reaches really doesnt seem far-fetched.

So if UFC exaggerates reach, I have an even better reach than I thought.

Yeah, noticed this too. RoryMac (who's 6ft) has a reach of 76.5.......BS!

The way it works and the way I have personally found is that your arm length acts as an equalizer for your shoulder width. I have very broad shoulders but by ratio my arm length is less than many of the lanky narrow shouldered people I know.

1) Wide shoulders increase reach
2) As you measure it from the fingers, the longer fingers increase reach as well

It really should have been an arm length, not wingspan. And it should be measured with your hand closed because that's how you (normally) punch. That way Jones' pterodaktyl reach suddenly becomes less exaggerated.

This is one measuring oddity that I've always thought they should fix.

Shouldn't reach be measure to the end of your fist instead of your fingertips?

Except for Jon Jones.... I kid, I kid.

Jones reach is not greater than struve's. Probably not more than brocks either. That dude's shoulders were like 36 inches alone lol

Do you mean Brocks? Cause shoulderwidth in terms of reach is hardly affected by the muscle you ad to your shoulders^^

Probably not, most people don't go around making up random numbers for their reach like they do for height.

Only way to solve this: do measure-ins at the same time as weigh-ins. That way they guys like Carwin who cut height will be exposed as the cheaters that they are.

It's an intern in the back with a tape measure. There isn't a standard way they measure reach, it's not going to be exact.

I know Carwin is infamous for starting camp at 6'5 and entering the cage at 6'1, but I wonder just how prevalent height cutting is in the UFC?
