Or has no one just gotten creative enough to use them? I'm a big MMA fan, and one of the things I love about is it the freedom to utilize all the different styles to fight. But as I gotten into fighting myself and training stand up, I'm curious as to why these moves haven't been utilized in constructs other than MMA or Muay Thai kickboxing?

Is there any explicit rule against them in boxing?

1. The Hanuman

Essentally all it is is a double uppercut. If you get a guy fast enough to close the distance, this could be a huge knockout blow, and be more effective than a combo.

2. Superman Punch

Very flashy I know, but there isn't any rule against jumping in boxing is there? If anything it would create a different angle to attack.

3. The spinning back fist

Now this is one where I think there may be a rule about. I know in K-1 you have to hit with the top part of your wrist insted of a close side of the hammer fist. But like the other moves, what aspect of this move would make it illegal? Like, I don't see whats wrong with this move as a strike, as long as the nist is the only thing landing.

thoughts/explanation?

1) The Hanuman -

No boxer is gonna let his opponent just walk up and double uppercut him like that. The opponent would get tagged badly. Hell, it takes patience and a good sense of timing to set up a normal uppercut, let alone a comical double uppercut like the one portrayed in the video. Plus, as shown in the video, when the guy goes to throw the "Hanuman", his chin is literally hanging and fully exposed in the air. Doing that against a skilled boxer is suicide.

2) Superman Punch -

The superman punch is set up in MMA by throwing a couple of low kicks and then surprising the opponent by faking a low kick and throwing a punch upstairs. Since there are no kicks in boxing, the superman punch would be telegraphed as hell and thus would be useless. Contrary to popular belief, a superman punch is NOT more powerful or damaging than a normal right cross. The element of surprise is what makes the superman punch so appealing. Not its jumping nature.

3) Spinning Back Fist -

You're only allowed to hit with the knuckles in boxing.

not sure about the first one sounds kinda silly to me.

the "superman punch" to my knowledge is not illegal but any good trainer will chew you out if you ever used it. If you ever start boxing before you ever even throw a punch your gonna get taught proper footwork. Balance and proper footwork is vital in boxing. How many times have you seen a pretty weak punch knock someone down just because they wern't standing right and got caught off balance???? remember in boxing wheather it hurt you or not a knockdown is a knockdown. At no time during a fight should you ever go up on one foot and imitate your favorite superhero.

the third one is illegal you can't hit with the back of the hand.

those aren't used because boxers do not want to be knocked the fuck out looking like a retard using some piece of shit attack.

I remember Pacquaio being warned by the ref about hitting Clottey with both hands at the same time. I've never heard of any rule forbidding it, but it might have been because he was boxing his ears which I'm not sure is illegal either.. google isn't helping at all:

I think I remember reading somewhere that the ref thought Manny was trying to hit with his palms (instead of his knuckles) and that's why he initially jumped in.

I think thats what happened too. Taking two palms to the ears at the same time will leave you with some busted eardrums.

how about Gamboa hitting Salido with what appeared to be something like a superman punch after the bell, lol...

This is exactly correct.

I've been hit with numerous superman punches in sparring and I've thrown a few on my own, just for the hell of it (although my boxing coach goes batshit crazy whenever he sees someone do this).

The supermans I've been hit with have all been setup with kicks, a series of feints, or both. I've tried doing it without setting it up and all that does it get you hammered when the opponent sees it coming from a mile away. Not to mention that this will momentarily screw up your balance and put you in a very vulnerable position if it doesn't land and do some damage.

Honestly, the superman isn't even that good in MMA unless it works perfectly, which it probably won't. As for power, a straight right thrown properly will be a lot harder than a superman. The ones I've been hit with surprised me, but didn't hurt.

It's not to say that a superman can't be hard or do serious damage, but I tend to think of this punch as one of those tricky techniques that can be used to keep an opponent guessing and worried about attacks coming from unexpected directions. Throwing stuff like this in there can help back up a really aggressive MMA opponent by giving them extra things to worry about. But in pure boxing it's not going to work, or at least it shouldn't.

YMMV.

Dude, did you even watch that whole episode of Human Weapon? Even one of the Thai krus immediately dismissed the double uppercut when Jason brought it up.

Also with the spinning back fist you're not allowed turn your back on the opponent. If you id try one in boxing you'd probably be punched in the back of the head. In MMA notice how fighters always seems to just stand there watching whenever his opponent turns his back whilespinning. They're not legally allowed punch the opponent in the back so they have to wait for the guy to turn round. A grappler on the other hand can shoot and take him down.
