I don't think humans are either good or bad, were just part of nature and nature as a whole is doing it's thing in being indifferent to the process.

In the long run the planet will heal itself after humans virtually put themselves into extinction. But the planet will still be good to go and in millions of years stabilize / balance itself once more.

Discuss.

Going for good. We are the only species in 4.5 billion years that could possibly prevent the entire destruction of earth and or life from an outside threat.
In 150 light years there is most likely 25000 plus planets and probably several million dwarf planets. We thought the port cloude wasn't that big until recently but its out it's probably half a light year to maybe all the way to alpha cenuri
We are not alone obviously even within a small section of the universe. And the first messages they will see will be Nazis lol

Its pretty simple and boring. Humans have the capacity to do good and bad in the world, and are actively doing both at all times.

I recall another sherdogger putting this idea in my head, where there's another Terminator sequel but this time told through the viewpoint of Skynet.

The more I thought about it, the more interesting it was. Like if Skynet is super cold and logical then it would inevitably come to the conclusion that everything on the planet gets along pretty well, and exists in balance, except for humans. And since humans are destined to destroy the entire planet, Skynet has to eliminate them.

The key would be convincing the audience that Skynet is right. And I don't think that's impossible.

Humans operate outside the natural order of planet. As such we tend to upset the natural order of other species, environment, etc to suit our will . As such I do t think we can nessesarily be "good" for planet but that doesnt mean we need to be "bad" for it either just need make better choices.

We're responsible for the sixth extinction event.

We are a mixed species, some very good and some very bad, but our success relies on our resources and those harvesting of resources, as well as our reliance on industry and plastics, are terrible for the planet.

Voted bad.

The earth is 4.5 billion years old and has shrugged off much worse than humanity.

When people express concerns about the planet, environmentalism, etc they're not actually worried about the planet but our abilty to inhabit it. That's a valid concern. But the earth is fine. It will still be fine long after we're extinct

We’re just about the least violent species, in terms of reactionary violence.

If we had the temperament of chimps or lions, the world would be a lot more violent.

If you look at it from the outside in, we are pretty bad for this planet. Through history, all we have done is destroy and create at the expense of the planet itself and the other life on it.

Good examples are:

Pollution of all types
Ecosystem destruction
Deforestation
Climate Change
Land and Ocean degredation
Overconsumption of all sorts
Extinction of thousands of species
Damage and destruction through war

Our very existence threatens the planet daily.

The question is not...will the planet endure. Sure it will....most likely.
Not sure how anyone can intelligently say we are not bad for the planet. We are pretty much a cancer for the planet. Say otherwise and you are pretty much this dude...

It doesn't matter. The inevitable heat death of the universe and all that, you know?

What good do we do for the planet that's not greatly offset by the harm?
