okay everybody knows that Aoki kimura'd or whatever Hirota's arm, flipped him off and went into an antic like a demon child...

but I watched it today for some reason and caught the rules of the fight: "Winner determined by KO, ippon or decision".

of course by the way it unfolded it looks like ippon means submission in this case. right??

granted it was a news year's eve event in Japan under "Team Fight Rules" so it could very well be an Aoki fight with crazy rules. what I wanna know is, could you really win that fight by ippon???

In judo you can gain "ippon" by a perfect throw, by pinning for 20 seconds or submissions from arm locks or choke

thanks I shold've known that from watching the olympics.

so what I'm asking is, could they have won the fight by throwing the other one on his back?

No. Ippon just means total victory. Basically submission or KO in this case.
