I had a cousin who was huge into that shit back in the day. After watching it enough times, I realized I absolutely hated it. CZW, XPW, IWA Mid-South, FMW, and IWA-Japan were all fucking garbage around 1999-2002, approximately. CZW was actually his favorite of the bunch, too. I'd watch multiple events with him just so I felt like I was giving them a fair shake, but they just got worse over time.

That was a long time ago, though. Could be those that have survived or relaunched might be a lot better now.

CZW doesn't do as many death matches anymore but I enjoy their stuff. MASADA just came back and I really like him. Hes a dude who I want to get a big break but he probably never will because of the stigma with death matches.

I get the vibe that CZW got its name just because it sounds like ECW. The initials were chosen first and they tried to make a name fit. Combat Zone Wrestling doesn't really roll off the tongue.

ECW was the perfect mix of hardcore that wasnt to gory, lucha type high fliers, and technical wrestling. CZW and others are just too gory for me.

CZW is pretty shit honestly. Yea they get the awesome indie wrestlers to cycle through, but so does every other indie promotion. How the promotion is run though is pretty awful. I much prefer BJW. They're like the Japanese version of CZW but much better because of their awesome Strong Style HW title.
