I have an LG C1 I bought probably two years ago and for the last week the thing has been updating everytime I turn it on. There are constantly pop-ups about it while I'm trying to play Xbox and its really pissing me off. It has gotten much slower to start up as well. Is this normal?

Mine did the same thing this morning after having another update about 2 weeks ago. Its likely they are installing more adware as Im starting to get more popups at the bottom of my screen. Im probably going to disconnect it from the internet and run my appleTV for streaming services. I dont use the built in apps anyway. I wouldnt be surprised if they are using the updates for planned obsolescence.

Yes. It also constantly loses connection with the sound bar.

I will never buy another LG tv.

I have had an LG for 2-3 years that I bought because you largely only can get 'smart' tvs now.

I updated it one time when it was needed to support earc. Other than that it has no access to my network and likely never will again.

Yeah don't ever give your TV access to the internet unless something's not working right and you confirm that it was fixed with a firmware or software update.

Then only connect to get that update and then disconnect again.

Don't use your TV's built in apps. They are almost always inferior to the ones on a streaming device like a fire stick, Roku, or Apple TV.

And even if they work fine when you buy the TV, over time they will start to suck because your TV manufacturer has no incentive to keep them updated. Whereas the streaming boxes are competing with each other so they try to support every device they sell for a long time.

No something sounds wrong with yours TS. Might need to do a factory reset

You can still get viruses on your TV if you fuck around too much. I'd suggest a factory reset.

C9 and nope. All good.

I've never connected mine to the internet. It's working perfectly so why would I want to update it and potentially introduce issues?

Also, connecting something with a microphone in my living room to the net? Hell no.

Never hook up your smart TV to the internet.
Unplug your your network cable or disconnect the wifi. Restart TV.

Or you could keep updating until it runs slow a shit, and then later becomes a potential network vulnerability.

I have a LG B8 connected to wifi and it works like a charm, even with a ton of streaming apps installed.

The cheaper TVs in my house are all LG too, never had an issue except for a NanoCell one that disables wifi by itself when it stays turned off for too long but unplugging it for 5 seconds fixes it everytime.

Actually mine has been updating a lot lately. I am guessing once or twice a week (or at least it feels like it). It's a bit annoying cause it needs 5 mins to update and then I can continue and do/watch what i wanna watch. I do use the netlfix app on my tv (give my PS5 a break instead of streaming from that).
