Anyone else notice that remastered music sucks?

Lately been streaming music on my phone instead of listening to the radio. I was listening to some old playlists I have of 70s and 60s songs and I started noticing that the quality wasn't good. After a while I noticed most of the songs were remastered versions, so I went back and tried to find original versions and found that they were much better, especially on my car's speaker.

What do you think?

Sometimes but not always.

I do find myself noticing that the streaming services don’t have original issues though which is annoying.

It depends on the mix. I think the Beatles remastered albums have been consistently good but have heard remasters for other bands that were trash

Not really, can't think of any example off the top of my head. I saw Metallica remastered the Black Album. That had to be the most pointless one ever

Remastered just means volume raised to the point of clipping. Pretty much always sounds like shit.

No was listening to music in my car. I just felt like it wasn't as smooth and balanced, especially the vocals were just too loud

Agreed, I mean it's good for the box set release, I enjoy the demos and live shows. But really how you could improve the production of that album befuddles me.

Sometimes it's worth it, but a lot of the time it sucks.

Megadeth remasters are notorious for being terrible. I don't know if they all count as remasters because I'm pretty sure some parts of some albums had to be re-recorded. Rust In Peace is allegedly the worst offender. (I'm not a fan of Megadeth so I'm not sure, haven't listened to all the albums to compare)

A personal favourite album of mine actually had a remaster that was better than the original, Damage Done by Dark Tranquillity.

Remastered is usually just a gimmick to drive sales of music that has been stagnant.

Not a fan, let the original work shine

I hate remastered movies and music and anything that changes what originally came out

Like if you hear an album made in the 70's but then its remastered with a bunch of digital tools that werent invented until the 2000's, what are you even listening too at that point? Taking old music and putting this digital sheen on it is bollocks. They usually also overcompress it and hype the high end too much.

Exactly. The Black Album sounded amazing when it came out. Now they have changed it with some digital remastering tools that prob werent even invented back when the original came out. The whole point of The Black Album is that, despite what you may think of the songs, for it's time the sound quality was amazing.

Reggae remasters always suck.

The one album that I think benefitted from remastering was Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. On the original mix the volume was very low.

The other day listening to a mp3 on the computer, I heard stuff I never noticed before like in the car. It's as if computer or computer speakers allowed more detail to come out.

The volume on Licensed To Ill is very low also, maybe they should remaster that

You have a volume knob don't you?
No I dont because its not 1942 anymore
None of my sound systems have knobs or buttons or levers or those horns that you hold up to your ear so you can listen better
Old people suck
