I did a search in the forums and came across some threads on Boxer's Knuckles.

I think I might have it since hitting the bag has been a b*tch today. I've broken and fractured my toe before.. and now my knuckles definetely feel the same even though there's no physical sign of one.

Some movement tends to hurt my knuckles a little, and I'd rather someone stab a pen knife into them, than go 20% strength on the punching bag.

Also, in a year of training, yesterday was the first time I scraped my knuckles during punching. What might have caused it? I always have my handwraps snug and gloves as well.

I really hate it when I can't follow the class due to injury. Grr. Anyways, is it common with you guys as well?

I'm pretty sure I had boxers knuckle, and the only thing you can do to make it better is let it rest, with warm water, after you ice down the swelling.

Do they feel liked they are bruised?

I use toilet papar and fold it up and put a nice layer right over the knuckles.

Havent had any problems with the knuckles at all, but prior to using it my knucks always felt bruised and sore.

does it feel kinda "leathery"? Like an unoiled door hinge? Does the tissue over the knuckle move in a weird way when you try to move the finger extensor?
its been over 7 months and my knuckle is only just starting to heal......i havent hit anything harder than a love tap the whole time.

I've been out for three months because of my injury.

Boxer's knuckle on both hands? What are you punching, a sack of bricks?

I got boxer's knuckle on my middle right hand knuckle about a month after I started training, and it didn't heal for a good three months. The last month and a half I could work the double end bag with little/no pain, but that was about it. Hitting anything heavier just hurt it more. The trainer worked me on the mitts with my lead hand only during that time.

It sucks man, but you'll have to lay off those knuckles until they heal. Keep training an injured body part and you'll just make it worse.

My trainer told me to ice it when that happened to me a few weeks ago. I just went home and iced my hands after every session. It sucked because I could only hit very lightly. I don't have the problem now. Maybe it'll go away with time like me.

I don't get what 'leathery' feels like.

The fourth knuckle hurts when i make a fist, and the third hurts when i apply pressure. This is only on my right hand.

My left hand's knuckles are scraped right off.

This is the first time I've ever sustained such injuries, even with proper precaution. What sucks the most is not being able to train punching for a long time.

And I was just thinking about finding a proper amateur boxing gym. Now I'll have to stick to 'recreational' Muay Thai.

"leathery" is the only way i can describe it......its like the skin overtop the knuckle is thicker and kinda viscous.........This after the swelling has subsided.
Go see a doctor before you listen to anyone here.....especially me.

If you skinned your knuckle that sucks but at least its just skin. When i was little i would make punching bags out of anything.Usually i would always skin my knuckle raging on it and be like "DAMMIT....no more punching for awhile again!!"

Oh man, that sucks...hang in there. I used the time to finally start lifting and conditioning. I figure by the time i start hard again i'll hopefully be at refreshed level.

Usually my knuckles don't complain, but I just did a break last night, and I'm feeling it.

I'm icing it at the moment, but it will be a few months at least until it's 100% again.

Knuckle pushups are good conditioning for that sort of stuff. If you want to go hardcore, then makiwara, but I don't really want to do that to my knuckles just so I can punch harder. Generally, I don't have a problem going a few rounds on the bag with nothing but wraps. Hitting something really hard will hurt you, though, and you have to ice it and let it recover.

Yeah it blows. I had been training around it since june 06'. I actually hurt it in August 05'. God this is depressing.

y'all shouldnt hit things without gloves on, unless you are training to be a bareknuckle fighter like in fight club. same way NFL players shouldnt train without body padding, sure they might get tougher but its just stupid. and dont try and tell me you had the gloves on if you're saying that you skinned your knuckles

"and dont try and tell me you had the gloves on if you're saying that you skinned your knuckles"

I had wraps and gloves on at the time. I surprised myself too. I guess I didn't wrap my hands well that particular day. It was the first time in a year that happened to me.

Anyways, so far so good. I guess my right knuckles are getting better. Hopefully, I would be able to punch again in one month.

i honestly dont see how its possible,, but anyway the best recovery is to rest it i guess, it happened to me once when the corner of a wall attacked me, my knuckle joint felt like it needed oiling, was kind of grinding internally, didnt hurt too bad though

i have 2 knuckles on my right hand that are blown up... did the first one nov 4 at a grappling comp (pinky) and the other one 2 days ago at jiujitsu training... its sucks i was just about all the way to a fist too. just keep it stationary for a week or 2 then start stretching it goodluck

Once you get it healed, start working real light on a makiwara. That training will strengthen your knuckles like nothing else.

i rip a skin off my pinky after a heavy bag hiting(YES WITH GLOVE) a month ago. and it hurts alot!!
