Anybody use Turbo Tax?

two years running. I thought it was much better than paying the accountant 300 bucks to do the work for me.
If you can look at forms and write down numbers it should not be a problem.

The only thing that gets tricky is if you had the sale of stock. you'll need to know what you paid for each share and how much they were sold for.

Thanks, probably going to be using it this tax season

half the time it will import the data for you. And after you use them the first year your data will be save. Easy as cake.

It will probably take you the better part of an evening to fill the forms out.

A 1040EZ can be done on HR block online as well...along with several other resources.

If you just have a W2 ( or several) it should be very simple There are only 2 figures you need.

Your total wages, and total with holding.

If you are simply filing your taxes, without a shit ton of itemized deductions, you might as well just file through the IRS site. If I remember correctly, it was free and took about 10 - 15 minutes.

If you have rental property, Stocks, paying off Student loans, or are itemizing your deductions it will be a tad more difficult...

but a 1040EZ should be under 50 bucks.

most corporate offices of HR Block are doing them for free until the 15th of Feb I believe.

Timothy Geithner couldn't figure out his own taxes on Turbo Tax and Obama put him in charge of running the US Treasury so it must be highly complicated stuff only a wizard could understand.

I used TurboTax last year for the first time, it was free because I'm a student. I paid about $4000 in taxes for the 4 months I worked in 2011 and got $4005 back. Happy with the results, easy to use.

Have you used the mobile app at all or just the website?

I used TurboTax online - it was free for Federal and $28 for state. I liked it.

It boggles my mind that people still come in to my office to do 1040EZ's...

especially with the advent of Turbotax, HRblockonline etc...

H&R Block free file. As long as you don't have complicated taxes, it rules. Super simple interface and if you just have a W2 and maybe a few extra things, it only takes about 15 minutes and totally free.

Appreciate the feedback, I pretty much have nothing but a W2 so I'll definetly be using it this year.

I would avoid the "free" H & R Block return as the "free" return will probably apply to a limited amount of people. For example only with people with no kids, no sched A, no educational credits, and W-2 income only. And they will charge you for state returns.

I would avoid preparing your own return if you have stock sales, rental property, cancellation of debt/foreclosure/short sale, self employment and unreimbursed employment expenses. There are some other items to add to the list.

Your time is also worth something, a return that may take me only 20-30 mins to prepare will probably take an individual a few hours (aside from basic returns). You get what you pay for.

We also provide mid year reviews for free for clients and tax planning as well that the box probably cannot help you with.

Turbo Tax is cool too because they'll transfer your info from previous year (s) to the current year.

I use it for my family and charge $20 for friends that need to file.

Please stop giving away our secrets, I love those returns. :icon_lol:

I used them the last two years. First year was alright. Second year it didn't file online for whatever reason. I took mine to H&R Block this year.
