I loved the first series. Is the 2nd any good? How is it different? A review would be appreciated.

i don't know. but it looks badass. thank god he doesn't show any of that 50/50 berimbolo-i-have-never-been-in-a-streetfight crap.

i might have to check it out.

What's the story?

You must be too young to remember the Bill Lewis aka Paul Viele drama. :icon_lol:

Basically Paul Viele, the WMA guy, set up a shill site under the name Bill Lewis for reviewing his own instructional sets. Quite comical how he raved on about the Sperry sets.

Shame he felt it necessary to do all that because the sets were good enough to stand on their own merit.

Oh the good old days...

LOL, he reviewed his own products under an assumed name. Is the site still up?

I really don't think anyone here has actually watched the DVD's. He might have been revealing those Carlson Gracie secrets at the time, but nowadays anyone who trains MMA at a decent place is going to learn the stuff on those DVD's. Plus most people in this subforum are pure grapplers and disavow that there is anything MMA-related in what they do.

I think this is true of his sub grappling and gi-bjj series but I think that for his vale tudo series, many of the stuff he shows isn't common knowledge in most gyms but is known in the gyms that have more experienced pros that are of high caliber

Yeah, was all the rage on the forums a decade ago. I think the site is long gone.

Sperry's Master Series 1 was the first VHS set I ever owned and I bought at least partially based on the Bill Lewis review. Before I knew about Viele but still thought it was pure gold at the time.

Look, Mario Sperry stuff is always good. Everything else, is just bullshit man.

He does a lot of nogi de la riva, has a pretty good intro to leg locks if you aren't familiar with them, some good ground/pound and mma guard passing, overall he makes a very strong showing for BJJ in an MMA/Vale Tudo context. If you can find them for sale, I'd say pull the trigger. You really can't ever go wrong with sperry.

Also, if you can't find them for sale, they're one of the few widely available videos, even on non-MMA/BJJ specialized sites. I've even seen his stuff streaming on japanese youtube equivalents.
