26 fights in almost a decade and I've never seen him dropped or really even hurt by strikes, then again he hasn't really taken many shots either. Vitor, Arlovski and Gus are hard hitters but I can only recall Vitor hitting him a couple of times and he was going for a lot of TD's in that fight. Do we have any idea how good Johnson's chin is at this point?

He's like Dan Henderson.

So good at protecting themselves from clean shots that the public mistake it for an ability to withstand tremendous punishment.

His chin is good but it's mostly because he is always the better striker. Never seen him hit too hard before so I wouldn't say his chin is good. When I think of good chins it's mostly fighters that are very hittable but Johnson isn't

He hasn't faced anyone good enough in the striking department to test it. He was spamming TD's against Vitor because he knew he was going to get KO'd. Rumble has an unrealistic following on Sherdog.

Got caught pretty clean by Arlovski of all people a couple of times. I think that chin has been tested.

I'm willing to bet he has a solid chin even though I haven't seen it properly tested. His head is shaped like a pitbull.

Really? Seems like most people on here underate him

Well it looks like most people are very timid when they're standing with him. They likely pull power on their punches as to not over commit. He has a good chin and scary stand up. That combination puts fear in guys to commit fully because they're a punch away from eating through a straw for a few weeks.

I agree that he is overrated and that Vitor was going to outstrike him.

Thing is I think that because he is weak mentally he might just be one of those guys who will cover up untill the ref stops it even though his head can take the punishment.

If he fights Glover Teixeira, he will certainly be tested in chin department.

He fought Arlovski at HW, if anyone is going to test your chin it's a veteran HW that's known for his striking.

For sure. But I doubt Glover trades with Rumble. I think he will be looking to get Rumble on his back and wear him out.

It was uneventful untill Johnson cracked Arlovski's jaw after the bell, after which he fought the whole fight on survival mode so that's not a good example to gauge johnson's chin.

Arlovski isn't a superior striker to Vitor. Once you cut the weight you have to deal with the skills of that division. A LHW Rumble doesn't get wrestle fucked by Koscheck but a 170lb Rumble does.

Vitor best striking form came on his TRT run, before that he was a guy with some good simple offensive boxing and amazing physical attributes and instincts to take advantage of that. Guess who else fits that description? Good ol' Arlovski.
Also I don't see how are you trying to discredit a guy's chin by saying "he was hit by one of the hardest hitters in the history of the sport, but that was heavyweight, that doesn't count".
Not the greatest argument.

At some point yes. But going the route of Bader is not a way. Moreover, Teixeira doesn't fear to trade shots with anyone. He fought Rampage in close range and won.

What's the best striking performance of Vitor pre-TRT?
Franklin? Wanderlei?
He just blitzed the shit out of those guys with superhuman speed.
Obviously the guy wasn't a bad striker, but his technique gets pretty overhyped, when in fact it was when he was Young Dino/Old Lion that he got a lot better and started kicking guys in the head.

Vitor was ChuckLidelling grapplers for most of his career.

He doesn't get hit a lot so we don't know.

He wanted no part of belfort standing so he obviously wasn't particularly confident in trading and coming out on top.
