I think Andre Fili has what he needs to be a major player at 145. Good cardio, wrestling, diverse striking, and rangy. Tonight probably closed any chance of him being anything more than just a guy at 145.

Coaching matters

Anyone want to fill me in on this guy? I've never seen him fight aside from highlights. Strengths or weaknesses in his game? He looks flashy against low level competition but most of the clips are shit quality.

EDIT: Nevermind. He's a gatekeeper at best.

He's a guy with well rounded skills who lacks all the nuances to be really high level at any discipline. He doesn't have feints or the striking acumen to apply a diverse array of techniques. He's not a bum or irrelevant though he has decent pop, good wrestling and great cardio. Those 3 will keep you in the UFC.

He generally has been a win1-lose1 who hasn't put his tools together. Has some nice headkick ko's and some wrestling

Thanks man. I just found a decent video. Strong in some respects but very weak in others. If he can change his game up a little and get some decent coaches then he might make a splash. As it stands he looks like more of a gatekeeper than a perennial contender.

He def won tonight so really he should have a 3-fight win streak going on

Cant knock him for losing tonight. despite his record Johnson gives almost everybody he fights trouble. Johnson's a guy like Guillard who's incredibly talented fast and powerful but seems to find a way to whiff it when he's winning. He looked solid af tonight, fili losing to him isn't a real game ender.

As for Fili? He seems like a guy who has all the tools but hasn't put them all together yet. Would love to see him at a better camp

He's just another well rounded guy who takes zero risks. Literally a dime a dozen these days. His ceiling is top 10 gatekeeper in my opinion.

I mean he just got out worked by Michael Johnson.

Yeah he isn't a title contender and won't ever be one. If he had some unique thing like a granite chin he could be but he lacks any of the intangibles to be at that level. He's a fun fighter though and worth watching. Rarely in a boring fight.

He had nothing but a right high kick when standing with Johnson. Got to give it to him for surviving there, MJ has good and really fast hands. Fili did his best work in the grappling exchanges, but it wasn’t enough.

29-28 MJ.

His standup consists of a decent right high kick that's he's fallen in love with and terrible hands.
And his movement consists of him circling away from strikes borderline running.
I will say he has decent timing on his takedowns, that has actually impressed me.
But when his standup fails he proceeds to lay and pray.
He's a stereotypical Team alpha male fighter.
All cock guy. Terrible coaching.
Oh and fuck him for arguing with the ref about poking MJ in the eye.
Yeah I've had a few and am bitching...
