No spoiler, as I'm interested here about
the hyperspace jump Leia's Tantive IV made at teh end of Rogue One. We open oop A New Hope wit Vader right on their tail. Teh fook?
So Vader transported from his flagship to teh rebel flag ship Profundity that Leia's ship Tantive4 un-docked from. Now Vader has to get back to his Flagship, & then follow them through hyperspace. Teh fook?
As it turnz out they explained this in some canon... Saying that the Profundity was locked into the tractor beam, but tractor beams don't just pull in... everything in its vicinity. It is focused on a single mass by their computers... so when teh Tantive4 dropped out from under teh neith, it wasn't caught. That said, the computers
did recognize & follow it in an attempt to capture it... though not long enough to "catch" it.
Okay, that's a mouthful there, but another aspect of tractor beams is that grabbing & pulling... isn't all they do. There's a lot of analysis that's going on regarding size, shape, direction, propulsion fuel being emitted, hyperdrive emissions & and jump trajectory etc. These factors were also being used for hyperspace tracking at the time. Though rudamentary compared to what we saw 34 yearz later, it could get teh job done if the ship was within' tractor beam range.
As teh Tantive4 moved away, teh compterz on Vader'z flagship were tracking the Tantive4 in that same way while trying to grab it too. Though they didn't get a grip on it enough to stop it... they did track every single detail about their size, movement, direction & propulsion. Though all this data isn't exact, they knew for sure the "exact direction" & so could then estimate where they jumped to. Even if it took em a couple of jumps to find them, they knew teh "exact" direction & so that's how they found them.
So this begs teh question of why teh Rebelz didn't make a "2 jump strategy" a primary protocol when escaping from Imperial flagships. Fast forward 30 fooking yearz & they still hadn't figured that out.
Teh fookin' Rebelz needed me there! but I waz too busy stackin' Twi'lek poon in teh healing bathwaterz to be bothered. (I later switched exclusively to Tagruta'z after a summer fling with Ahsoka Tano) So I waz distracted... but I now feel personally responsible for every jump that was followed through hyperspace there-after, including teh annihilation of teh hole fleet in 34 ABY.
Had I rocked oop & went to Yavin as an advisor... we would've made a "2 jump protocol" standard... when escaping a Flagship. Luke & Obi would've never been involved had teh Tantive4 simply jumped to a random location & then again to tattoine before Vader got there. Or at least teh story would've been different.
Luke & Obi were destined to get together as teh force awakened in Luke, & they would've eventually got into the mix wit teh rebelz. I'm sure teh distruction of Alderaan would've put them into action since Obi sensed it.
I waz actually there when teh man pulled a light saber at teh Mos Eisley cantina.
At teh time, I waz Max Rebo's manager, but had a side gig as a salesman with a new line of more reliable power converters. (that's pretty much teh only reason I brought dis hot group to such a vile hive of scum & villainy)
I was literally at teh Tosche station at teh time Luke would've otherwise arrived at... if he didn't have to clean oop those droidz before diner. We would've been in teh back playing our usual high stakes Sabaac when Luke arrived & was dealt in.
After he cleaned us out, I offer him a life of adventure travelling wit teh Max Rebo band & cleaning out Sabaac tablez. His first hand knowledge of moisture evaporators would also be quite handy.
Getting rich quick would've fooked teh lil' guy oop & we would've been pretty high on Spice most of teh time, so he probably would've ended oop joining teh Emperor.
I guess it all worked out for teh best.
