I honestly hate Dana White, like many others - a very long story for another day I think.

But... anyway, I randomly just watched this fight back and I'm a little frustrated.

I know this event was in Abu Dhabi and it was supposed to be a huge showcase to the Middle East that MMA for a great thing and to promote investment - which they did get anyway and now 10% of the UFC is owned by an Asian media company a.k.a. rich Arabic guys. Anderson was obviously a gigantic favorite in this fight and it was a gift for him.

No I know Dana wanted him to go out there and just smoke Maia, so he and Lorenzo could smile and clink glasses with the Arabs and say "Look at how great this guy is" - but Silva didn't conform. Now my problem is this, can you remember the HUGE backlash from Dana for months about Anderson after this?

- Refused to give him the belt.
- Said it was the most embarrassed/disgusted he has been since owning the UFC etc.
- Went on a mini-smear campaign for a few months where he almost wanted Anderson to apologize for it.

WHERE IS THE MAIA CRITICISM? HE THREW NEAR TO NOTHING IN 25 MINUTES!

Anderson was clearly on cruise control, and yes could have probably put Maia away in 2 or 3 but I cannot understand how the UFC put an undersized MW with zero striking, minimal offensive wrestling and only a BJJ game into a fight with the "GOAT" and YOU complain when Anderson doesn't destroy him. YOU MADE THE FIGHT! Quite clearly Maia didn't deserve to be in there, quite clearly, but I hate the way Dana goes on at some of his best talent and makes them feel like they must do A, B and C - Where was the GSP hate for LnP? Not once have I heard Dana criticize that or GSP's jab and leg kick style.

Dana is a fucking hypocritical dick who needs to stop this BS, we can all see through it.

PS. Weed is a "Performance Enhancing Drug" ... but Cocaine isn't!? Why do club goers take coke, supposed to enhance something surely.

Hey... in the words of DW... "Not me!"

Ban this Dipshit or at least give yellow card.

I wish this was relevant. You seem very passionate about it.

I remember at the time a lot of people were saying Maia deserved a lot of the blame, Dana has always been a dickhead.

Cause he was the P4P best. The one's at the top get the most criticism. No one expected much from Maia, but he definitely could have done more. Anderson refused to engage on the ground and Maia refused to engage on the feet. Just a terrible fight.

All I remember from that fight is Bruce Buffer not reading the scorecards (only time I know of) and just saying "unanimous decison" while the screen said majority decision.

And seriously TS? A little late to feel this strongly still, you think?

I done fucked up and went back in time.

Anyway, I think most people just felt embarrassed for Maia so it mitigated the damage.

Anderson could've finished him at any time and chose not to because he's moody sometimes. Because of that he got shit for it.

I seem to remember Anderson showboating a lot in front of a guy doing nothing. He hurt Maia several times and let m off the hook instead of finishing it off. Dana went a lititle overboard but he was right, it was an absolutely embarrassing show to watch.

It's gonna be okay TS.

I hope you aren't a Strikeforce fan... but if so, there's some bad news on the horizon for you.

Why didn't Maia get as much shit for doing nothing against Anderson.

That's what I got from it.

Because he's so bad at striking people over saturate his BJJ greatness and think he's much better than he is.

I thought it was cool when maia threw that hail mary combo towards the end. No fucks given. Definitely one of my favorite fighters, he has improved a lot

That fight was the UFC's fault… What did they expect. Maia went out there not trying to win, just trying to survive. He got stuffed over a dozen times from memory. He was shooting from the side of the cage.

If they really wanted to showcase Anderson's talents they would have pulled in a striker to really put on a show piece. UFC done fucked up.

Hahaha, some of these responses put a smile on my face.

I know I took it pretty far back, my bad - I was just randomly catching up on some old fights, I was entertained by Anderson's trolling in that fight.

Could not agree more...

Can you believe Nate KO'd Maia in 21 seconds, then Maia's next fight was a UD over Dan Miller... then guess what?... Anderson Silva in Abu Dhabi, for the MW title and to put on a Main Event to impress the Middle East market... Great job Shelby and Silva.
