Serious recency bias here. For the first 20-25 years of NHB/MMA, almost all of the good wrestlers were American and many held belts in the UFC and other orgs. I admit they've been disappointing for the last 5 or so years, though.

Severn, Couture, Coleman, Kerr, Erickson, Hendo (wrestled a lot more in early years), Randleman, Hughes, Weidman, Jones, Cormier, Rashad, Usman, Woodley....I believe all of them won a UFC belt or tournament, except maybe Randleman who was arguably robbed vs. Bas.

Cole Konrad, Woodley (Strikeforce), Shields, Askren and others were dominant in other orgs, too.

I'd like to see him do well. He's not going to be able to outstrike everyone (as the RDR fight showed) so hopefully he fine tunes his wrestling skills for MMA.

His comments he's made in the past have had me rooting for him to lose his last fight, I get it, he's a hard nosed wrestler and all that but the arrogance was irritating. Bo's an animal in a division filled with other animals. With the current mentality he has, he'll find out they have bigger fangs then him IMO.

People will laugh, but Bo could dominate his division with the right coaching. I do think he is coachable which some wrestlers (Askren comes to mind regarding striking) are not. It is now a matter of running out of time.

Randleman held the HW title.

I'm not 100% but I think he might have taken it off Maurice Smith.

And that argument that he was robbed vs Bas... its a really strong argument.


If that fight happens today I think it is a pretty crystal clear 50-45 win for Randleman and I really don't see any era, any judging criteria where you could legitimately argue that as a Bas win. Bas was busted up, bruised, bloodied, the doctors checked on him, I think even more than once. Bas was on his back the whole fight, guard passed a few times ... really he wasn't even more aggressive fighting from the bottom... Randleman didn't have a mark on him.

It was one way traffic. The whole time.
