I think a lot of people are like that TS. A lot of it is values your parents teach you. My old man didn't like to spend money on anything and owned things until they were beat into the ground. My friends growing up thought he was cheap as hell but he was on to something. I bought my last car it was less than a year old and I drove it for a little over 10 years before the annual mantenance costs no longer made sense, so I bought a new one this year. I to had the iphone3 until broke after 3 years. I was disappointed I was hoping it would last longer.
Some people call me cheap as well but unlike a lot of my friends I'm not drowning in debt. I don't functon to pay off copius amounts of debt. This also allows me the freedom to do whatever I want without worrying much about money. I can take a prolonged vacation and still be comfortable. I can make occasional purchase of indulgence and not have to worry about getting my next pay cheque. A lot of people do the same thing or go the extreme opposite it just depends on what's most important to you.
