It really exposes how terrible the UFC scoring is when counting strikes. This should go down as a fairly dominant Yan win over Merab by every metric.

Merab was hitting so many air punches and hitting Yan's gloves, he did not get many clean shots yet he beat Yan on some rounds for significant strikes according to scoring.

I feel like Yan has always had crazy cardio too and has been known to get better as fights wear on so I think that was a huge aspect as Merab’s conditioning, which is typically such a weapon was negated. Yan looked more fresh down the stretch and that damage definitely accumulated. Great performance.

I felt like Yan was visibly gassed by the end of the 3rd round but he just kinda managed to push through, in part because the damage he has dealt to Merab by that point had also drained Merabs tank
