all-round boxing gloves (for training, heavy bag and sparring)

I bought Twins special 16oz, but I don't know I'm wrong.. :icon_sad:

I do approx. 70% training (on heavy bag) and 30% sparring. Others have 10-12oz gloves, but I read on this forum that 16oz are best for amateur..

Probably I can change it for 12oz, do you suggest to change it for 12oz or not?

You made a good choice with the Twins Special 16oz. gloves. Most thoughts on this topic are a matter of preference, however, the vast majority of people seem to use two separate pairs of gloves, a 12-14oz. pair of bag or training gloves for bag and mitt training, and a 16oz. pair of sparring gloves for sparring.

They are used separately because bag gloves have denser padding and are not suitable for sparring, and sparring gloves won't last as long for hitting the bag. The padding seems to compress faster, and your sparring partners would definately not like to be punched with 12oz. densly padded bag/ training gloves or worn out sparring gloves.

Use the Twins Special 16oz. gloves for shadow boxing and sparring, and get a separate pair of 12-14oz. gloves for bag use. The bag gloves are generally less expensive, and even if you are on a very limited budget, it is tough trying to get by with one pair of gloves. The cost of a pair of bag gloves will save you in the long run, because you won't be tearing up you sparring gloves on the bag and then have to replace them. I hope this helps.

Ps. If the other guys at your gym are using 10-12oz. gloves for sparring, that is kind of puzzling to me, as 16oz. gloves for sparring are pretty much the preferred weight just about any place around the world.

sparring should be 16 oz or higher, and 16 oz can also be used for bag gloves

i suggest a hooknloop 12-14oz for bag and 16 oz traditional for sparring,

you cant tie the gloves yourself for hitting the bag, and you cant use hooknloop without someone to wrap or tape it for sparring

N yea as others have said no less than 16 oz. for sparring, and in my opinion it is good to use a 16 oz glove on bag and mits because it is heavier, and adds to the workout, almost like hand weights or whatever, I just don't see the benefit of switching to a smaller glove for bag and mit work, I do see a potiential benefit in keeping the 16's on for that stuff.

Twins 12oz cost $140 in my country and I already bought 16oz (for $140). I find cheaper 10-12oz gloves for approx $60, but they are lousy, poor quality artificial leather..

So you suggest not to change it for 12oz? I will try to find cheaper 10-12oz bag gloves (on ebay), although I read in other thread that people use 16oz twins on bag for years..but I don't want to ruin it. In gym we have 10oz gloves, but they are old, ruin and smells like hell.

Like others have said, 14-16 oz is a fine choice for wanting something to use for both sparing and bag work. Typically the heavier weight the better but it's defendant on your weight class as well. I use 14 oz gloves for my bag/sparring all in one glove.

I use 16oz for heavy bag and sparring.. but will take 10oz open palm gloves for heavy bag if I have time (trainer doesn't allow to waste time for glove change)

Use 16oz then... on days you won't spar, you can use 12 or 14 oz if you like

i think for training and the heavy bag but 160z for sparring but i got some reeboks and they split pretty easy so i'd go with a proper boxing specialist like everlast for all round gloves

If you buy Everlast you need to get their high-end gloves. Their cheap gloves are garbage, and for a little bit more money you can find a pair of gloves from someone else that are infinitely better.

I own Twins 16oz gloves ,and use them for sparring only ,I found the wrist support and the softness of the glove not really suitable for the heavy bag in my opinion,great glove if you like your sparring partners,and the more you use your gloves on the heavy bag the quicker you will wear out the padding and its protective qualities.

I own 12oz twins on the heavy bag and love them ;but,wanted a better work out so I purchased 16oz Top Kings for bag work or as a training glove and feel they are more suited to heavy bag work ,OK for sparring but not as good as the Twins,I only use my Twins 16oz for sparring.
