Alexander Volkanovski does NOT have a 71" reach

Volkanovski is one of my favorite fighters and I want him to beat Islam. However, that does not change the fact that the dude does NOT have any kind of reach advantage over Islam.

UFC gets measurements wrong all the time. Just based on appearance alone its obvious that his arms aren't long, or really even normal—they're short. He has short arms. Check the other promotions he fought in, none of them have his reach at over 70 inches. AFC has his reach listed as 164 cm, which is 64.5 inches.

to those of Artem Lobov:

Volkanovski's arms do NOT appear 5 inches longer.

This has nothing to do with his fighting ability. If anything, it is more impressive that he ran through the FW division with T-Rex arms.

True his arms aren't all the way down but I can also argue that Lobov has the longer torso.

In any case neither of them have the same reach as Islam, who has normal arms for a 5'10 dude. I'm thinking Volkanovski's reach is around 65-67".

The UFC is known to exaggerate heights all the time. Why can't they be exaggerating reach too? Look the Islam Volk face off, it's obvious that Volk doesn't have a reach advantage.

I wouldn't say it's just for this fight. His reach has been listed as 71" since his debut, even though other promotions had it much shorter

Him going from like 71in to 69 or 68 inches wouldn't shock me. Getting 71 inches mixed up with almost the shortest reach in the UFC? doubtful.

A lot of fighters magically get an inch taller when they start fighting in the UFC, if you compare their heights in regional shows to their UFC 'tale of the tape' stats.

No. The difference between a particularly wide person and a narrow narrow person it's actually no more than about a inch. That's not enough to explain his visibly short arms.

Volk's coach explained that recently, that his reach is actually quite a bit longer than his arm length because he extends his upper back forward when he punches.

Regardless numbers, you can tell he has above average reach for the weight class and uses it very well. If not convinced, look at the Holloway fights. This was a big factor in him out striking Max with relative ease.
