Alexander Gustafsson has beaten the last two lhw champs. One, the current champion, by complete destruction. The other by a dominant decision.
On top of that, he gave the last two champions before that the toughest fights of the careers, arguably beat them in somes opinions and beat the champion before them in a clear decision victory.
Alex has only won 2 of his last 7 fights and those two being the current and now previous champions

Is LHW the weakest it's ever been? And is it the weakest division in the UFC right now?

No, heavyweight is weaker. Heavyweight is an absolute mountain of slop with a couple good fighters sprinkled on top of the division.
But LHW is definitely weaker than it was a decade ago imo. The lighter weight classes (BW, LW, even FW) are better overallI think.

Gus couldn't strike against Jan and had to use wrestling to win
Gus eye poked Glover several times with the last eye poke leading to the KO

Gus has no heart and has quit since his last loss to Jones where Gus was unfortunately a piko sacrifice

Gustafsson has been in multiple wars that took a tremendous toll on his body. This is just another MMAth thread that completely disregards the fact some fighters are regressing as they receive wear & tear/get older, while other, younger fighters are continually improving.

Well, except for the heavyweights. They just suck. Watching the Volkov vs Tybura fight made my eyeballs bleed.

Gus didn't give DC his toughest fight.... DC lost before and after he fought Gus

LHW is better than it’s been in a while. Jones saw this and ran.

Arguably Jones lost to Gus, Santos, and Reyes. His aura of invincabilty had been cracked. If not for his eyepokes and pico pulsing he would’ve been done a while ago.

HW is pure trash. The skill level at HW is pathetic.

You also forgot he beat Shogun who was the LHW champ before Jon so that's the last 5

There are certain guys who become significantly better when they fight high skill level opponents. Whether it’s motivation, seizing the moment, or just luck. Guys like Kelvin Gastelum, Michael Johnson, and Gus has a tendency of getting their best results against their most formidable opponents. It makes drawing any larger conclusions based off their performances quite pointless.

Gus has clearly regressed in his last 3 and was inconsistent before that. If he was always performing at or near his best, he would not be 2-7 in his last 9.

Gus is washed. Lost to shot, off a two year suspension Werdum. Couldn't make it past Anthony Smith.

This. I don't think Gustaffson was ever the same after Rumble took his soul in Sweden. I think that loss shattered his confidence.

Ironically he beat both Jan and glover post rumble
I agree though, he got cucked hard in that fight

how do you delineate weak vs. deep talent?

Is parody worse than 2-3 dominant people?
