AEW Rampage ratings : 1.1 million viewers

Damn. If only there was a thread where this was discussed...
 
i can only assume punk is getting the hulk hogan treatment. interested t see how long wrestling according to punk will last

I think he will be fine. They're indy wrestlers. They can understand him. Plus, he's not going to be working a lot. It's not WWE where he's working 300 days. I think he'll be more relaxed, plus he's older. The EVPs don't really have an ego. Cody is the one perceived to have a massive one, but Cody puts everyone over. Kenny is willing to. Youngbucks well, they are tag team and not main guys. But he did say he wanted to work with them.

I think Punk will be more ROH like. Nothing will be roses, but I think the fires will get put out before anything boils over.

Yes. As far as putting people over, they do not have an ego. You don't think Kenny would job to CM Punk? I think business sense it wouldn't make any sense, since Kenny is younger, but he would do it. Hell, he just jobbed to Christian and reports were he was willing to Job to Andrade in mexico with ric flair being involved.

Cody put Darby, MJF, Malakai black over. The young guys he's worked with he's put them over. I'm missing a name but he put over like 4 major players in AEW if I'm not mistaken.

He definitely put people over. Look at the guys I just named. They're either stars or top prospects of the company. He let both Brody Lee and Malakai Black just destroy him. Made him look like nothing.

Young Bucks? They're a group act, so likely they will not be involved with punk other than a secondary story line. They're akin to the USOs to Roman Reigns.

Remember when Hogan put over Rock and Warrior and somehow came out of both losses looking better for it? Cody remembers...and he learned well.

I don't even like the Ugos but I feel insulted on their behalf for that comparison.

Ehhhhh. I see what you're going for, but it doesn't make sense. I don't think Cody think he's the rock. I also think Cody is a lot more down to earth despite his perception. I think he wants to carry the name well, so it might look like something it isn't.

But I digress. You're example doesn't make sense because Most of the talent he put over are on a trajectory. He got his ass kicked in 4 matches and 4 of those guys went on to be main players. He immediately took himself out of the title picture. People want Cody to be something he isn't. They want him to be a jeff jarrett/HHH booker who's always going to book himself in main events and take away from top talent. He hasn't shown that since AEW Launched. I get it, he's not for everybody, but someone says he's selfish and won't put people over, I don't think they have been paying attention since the inception of AEW.

The USOs on roman reigns secondary canon. They're there to advance roman. The young bucks are there to advance Kenny or Hangman storylines. Whoever they are involved with. Even in NJPW, it was the same thing. If you have criticism with the young bucks, I think criticizing the tag title picture is more apropos than criticizing them for wanting to work with punk or wanting to put themselves over. It's been months since they lost the tag titles. I believe they need to lose, imo.

But WWE and AEW had the same reasons for keeping the belt on their tag team champions. They advance the story for their champion. That's the only reason they still have the belts. That's the only reason USOs won the belt even after getting multiple DUIs and a confrontation with a police officer.

I disagree on Cody. He does see himself as a top level guy on par with the Rocks and Austins and Hogans and so forth. I'm not saying he doesn't lose to people on a trajectory...I'm saying he does it in a way that guarantees he won't lose any shine. As for being a Trips or Double...I think he's smarter about how he books himself than Trips and comparing him to Jarrett is an insult. I'll go back to the Hogan analogy...or hell...compare him to his dad. He'll lose...but he'll make sure he comes out smelling roses when he does. Whatever else you can say about Cody...you can't say he's not smart. Delusional about his level of talent and ability sure...but he ain't stupid.

agree to disagree. I think he's feels athletically he's on that level, but I believe realistic. I think he would have liked to get to that picture, but he pretty much said it in promos that his focus has shifted since AEW and since having a child. I think he wants to be known more as a booker/Executive now than as a top guy. I believe him when he says or hints those aspirations are over. If it wasn't he would have over booked himself already.

It's been 2 years, maybe 3. I can't find an instance really when he overbooked himself. He might be extravagant with the promos and the entrance and present himself different from the locker room, but at the end of the day, he loses the big ones. He can't challenge for the title. He's pretty much the gate keeper to the upper echelon of guys.

Man, when you're getting squashed, I don't know. If Cody faced Aleister black in a WWE ring, many people would say Cody got buried by WWE and Vince Mcmahon. But because Cody is an exec for AEW, he was trying to make himself look good and get himself over more by putting black over.

I believe they handled it well. They pretty much ignore it and rub it in the face of people that get triggered by it. They have their philosophy of wrestling that's not akin to older viewers like Jim Cornette and disco. They don't have to do it someone's way just because that's has its been traditionally done.

but we're moving the context of "ego" into something else. We're talking ego as it relates to Punk



They said here, CM Punk is probably the last big draws remaining in wrestling, this was before All out, I believe. I think they know their place and I do believe each member of the elite is cognizant of where they stand. Some might think they're better wrestlers in ring, but that's not what it's all about. Cody can think he's as good as the rock, he's an athlete. There's nothing wrong with that. However, if he thinks he's a needle mover the way the rock is, he would be deluded and I don't think he views himself that way.

I agree that Cody puts people over, but don't add the Brodie thing to that. Cody needed an excuse to be off TV to go film Go Big Show, hence the destruction by Brodie. Literally the moment filming was over Cody was back and got his win back.

Apparently Cody is out filming more shit right now too, which is probably why the Black match was booked the way it was.

A lot of people's issues with Cody "overbooking" himself is how his matches get laid out. He can rarely just have a normal match. Most of his matches are "extra" as fuck and a lot of the time it's a detriment to the match.
