I was watching ADCC 2005 the other day and I felt there were alot of things wrong with the rules. Does anyone else feel the same way? The rule that I though was especially bad was the "no points for takedowns if they land on their stomach rule". I thought this was ADCC not judo. In Judo the rule works better because you restart on your feet quickly, so you can attempt another throw, but in ADCC people were just stall in the turtle position. The other rule I think that needs changing is the "2 hooks backmount" rule. There were so many times people would get 1 hook in and get nothing. I don't think you should get a full 6 points for 1 hook in, but I think you should atleast get 1. IMO if you're on someone's back with 1 hook in, you're in a dominat position. Also I think they should get rid of the "no points" time. I saw a few matches when I think the better grappler lost because of the no points time.
I thik the worst example of the abuse of these rules was Rani Yahyra. When he fought Leo Veira and Wagney Fabiano, he dove strait to his stomach and then let them get 1 hook in. After a struggle he would get to half guard and his opponent would get no points. Basicly he was allowed to pull half guard without any points being taken away. He went to about 3 or 4 overtimes with Leo Veira, but he didn't do anything, but get taken down and turtle up. My point is they should get rid of some of these rules because I think they made alot of matches too long and in some cases boring. I like to see who the best grappler is, not who knows how to manipulate the rules the best. Does anyone agree/disagree?

one hook back mount is nothing, and where did you come up with 6 points for taking the back? it's 4. the NO POINTS rule is to emphasis a submission so people don't have to worry about points or losing position. allows people to pull guard to get the action started w/o losing the 1 point.

but i do agree with you with the takedowns, it wasn't like that in previous adcc.

everything is about rules, many win because they know the rules better. look at MMA, and frank shamrock for example, he knows if theres no action on the ground theres a stand up, so he holds on in hopes for a stand up.

I don't know where I got 6 points from. my fault. Anyways, I know why they have the no points time, but I think the rule is making things worse. I think it hurts agressive people more. You can have them in any position before the points time and get nothing, but all they have to do is take you down once after points start and they win. I understand that it helps people that want to pull guard, but it makes other people want to stall because they don't want to put their all into it until the points time. And I still think you should get atleast a point for 1 hook in. It is a dangerous position.

Hey guys,I want to know what type of throws are legal in ADCC format championships. Is there something illegal at all? If you have trained for example, judo and sambo, you can do whatever you want (without slams)?

All throws are legal and a throw itself (no matter how high amplitude) can never be a slam.

@Kid Dynamite - Rear mount in adcc is 3 points and mount is 2 points, not 4 points.

You can do all throws in ADCC, including slams, as long as you are in a submission when you slam. Full nelsons are also illegal, along with the "crucifix neck crank", but that's it.

As far as the general discussion, no one in any organization gets points for having one hook in. That's silly. You have to have two hooks for points.

As for the no points in the first half of the match...it allows for people to open up their games and go for the submission without worrying about negative points, and it gets the focus of scoring immediately. Of course there are matches where the loser would have scored more points if scoring was in effect the entire match, but people go into ADCC knowing the rules. It's been that way for 12 years, and it's the most prestigious no-gi event. I'd rather they not change anything.

These is the basic ADCC point system: Reversals are considered sweeps in ADCC.
Mount position = 2 points
Back mount with hooks = 3 points
Passing the guard = 3 points
Knee on stomach = 2 points
Clean Take down (Ends passed the guard) = 4 points
Take down (Ends Guard or Half Guard) = 2 points
Clean Sweep (Ends passed the guard) = 4 points
Sweep (Ends Guard or Half Guard) = 2 Points

All throws are legal and a throw itself (no matter how high amplitude) can never be a slam.
