So there's been a lot of talk about the state of GSP's mental and physical health in regards to his reasons for retirement.

Most famously Joe Rogan talked about how Georges told him about "missing time", and how that's been occuring. Rogan cited this as a sign of the damage he's been taking lately.

HOWEVER, in the same podcast in which Georges talks about this, he tells Joe that this is something that has been happening HIS ENTIRE LIFE. I'm not saying he's been abducted by aliens periodically since he was a little boy, but this occurrence is not a product of his fighting career.

I'll entertain the possibility that whatever it is could be aggravated by taking blows to the head for years.

This was bothering me so I thought i'd clear it up.
If you're interested, listen to GSP on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast for further details.

It's cool, you can say it's aliens.

You know you want to.

I'm pretty sure GSP said his blackout problems have gotten worse in the last few years, hence the time away.

I listened to that podcast and I don't remember the exact sequence of words he used or the precise conversation...but saying "his entire life" could possibly have meant, the last 10-15 years (or whatever). A long enough time span that it feels like it's been happening his entire life. I certainly don't remember him saying it happened when he was a kid (although it's possible, I don't remember exactly).

Anyway...point is, even 10-15 years ago it's a good bet that GSP had already started taking plenty of shots to the head and sustained a concussion or three. That might be all it takes.

So, I'd say you're right to entertain the possibility that it was aggravated by head trauma, but maybe not right to outright dismiss the thought that it was brought on by head trauma.

Again, my whole post could be wrong if GSP specifically said it was happening when he was a wee lad. "Entire life" sounds specific, but sometimes it just means "for a long damn time". I mean, I feel like I could bench teh 275 my entire life, but the reality is that I didn't accomplish that until I was 11.

Maybe he's just a space cadet and sometimes he stares into the abyss with his mind blank. Happens to my friend Alex all the time.

i wonder if Gary Goodridge thinks his blackouts have been happening all his life too....

Almost positive he said it happened when he was a little kid, i'll probably give that podcast another listen to make sure.

Yeah I sometimes do the same thing. I will be doing some work on the computer and then get distracted and my mind will completely wander and when I look back at the time on the computer like 5 or so minutes may have passed. It can happen at the most rand

I used to have this happen for HOURS at a time. Like literally, I wasn't "distracted" I would just freeze, for hours at a time and not move, not move a mouse, type, walk around etc, just freeze and stare.

He actually does say, "since I'm a kid".

Aliens.

Glad someone else picked up on that TS.

It annoyed me to hear Joe constantly going back to the "hard sparring" and "blows to the head" when Georges clearly said "it's been happening my entire life"

Pay. The. Fuck. Attention.
