So the 33rd anniversary of Pryor/Arguello came around a couple days ago and it's one of the historic fights that I've never seen for whatever reason, so this morning I got stoned, which is not much of a habit for me nowadays, so suffice it to say I was really high.

Not to make this about weed, but when I used get super stoned, more often than not I would watch tape on fighters that are about to fight for betting reasons and classic fights just for fun. I found that I truly appreciate combat sports when I'm high, but especially boxing, even more than I already do (which is a lot that's why I post here with you fuckers all the time).

Anyway that was really one of the greatest fights I've ever seen and I feel like a disappointment as a boxing fan for not watching it much sooner. Both guys are truly great fighters and they put it all on the line in that fight. Can't believe the chin on these guys, especially Pryor, and the amount of beautiful brutality they dished out.

So I decided since it's such a great fight and the fact that it's around an anniversary, albeit not an "important" anniversary, that we take our time to pay our respects to this great fight and these great fighters. This is some of the best display of talent and heart we'll ever see in this sport.

RESPECT BOYS. RIP ALEXIS ARGUELLO.

That's a lot of rounds !! And the refs back then sure let fighters really take punishment at least this one , he gave him every opportunity to find a way out of that barrage

Yeah, I originally thought the stoppage was late, and it probably was, but I understand the ref not stopping it sooner and trying to give Arguello the benefit of the doubt. It was so back and forth and they had gone through such a war already, I kind of understand his thinking.

Pryor at his best was truly hell to deal with. Legendary fight. Arguello had a really sad life after boxing. It's a shame because he seemed like a genuinely nice person.

Random thought:

This fight took place in 82. I was too young to have really appreciated it.
Did you guys watch this live or did you watch it later?
Do you speak about these (older) fighters from memory or from having studied?

I wasn't alive for this fight so definitely not live, lol. 82 in Miami sounds like a crazy time, though, lol. Especially if you're hanging out with Pryor.

I have to talk about older fighters from watching video since I'm too young. A ton of great fights out there on youtube. I enjoy watching older fights, a lot of great ones out there that make you appreciate fights/fighters you would've never had the opportunity to see. Long live youtube.

Best way to watch boxing, Blunt. I feel this is a fight I want to rewatch, and soon. I watched the battle once prior (no pun intended), but back when I first got into the sport, and ventured into a "best fights of all time" type thread, and youtubed everything I saw over the course of a couple months, lol. My eyes didn't even know how to pick up the finer details of the sport back then, but I remained fascinated with the sport. Still, I was always shocked at the outcomes, like, "WHAT?! THAT GUY GOT COMPLETELY DESTROYED, COMPLETE ROBBERY" so there's a good number of fights I'd like to review again, haha, hopefully all of which blazed out of my mind.

I need to sit down and watch this fight.

It'll be worth your while. Pryor is like James Kirkland on steriods (actually coke) except he can box and he's just better and not to mention has a SICK chin. like one of the best I've seen. Arguello is a beautiful technician in the ring as well and has a great chin as well.

Unstoppable combination.

St Pac's salt water > Panama's cold Perrier water.

I saw a doc a few years ago about Luis Resto and mainly about the Billy Collins fight, but since he trained under Panama Lewis as well, they asked him what was in the bottle. Resto said it was crushed up asthma medicine mixed in the water bottle or something like that to keep his stamina up in the later rds. Think Resto said he did this with more than just Prior too. Don't know if it's true but that's what Resto said it was. Panama gonna Panama.

They said it was antihistamines.
