this thread brings me to MMA where ive slowly discovered most of the UFC fans, and this will be controversial here, do not fight at all. a short exposition of my fighting history is that im a Kyokushin practitioner with a strong Muay thai base that eventually came and very minimal grappling (basic TDD). facing grapplers in the MMA arena would fill me with dread for there is nothing worse than being in the bottom of a wrestler/BJJ artist who has your number for the minutes that eclipse within such moments go on forever. having never been KO'd means little but having tapped out many times is a bit humiliating for you eventually choose to avoid those with a strong grappling base.
ive trained with grapplers. ive been smothered in side control by a 185 lber who made me rethink my life choices. ive escaped bad positions and felt that rush when you finally reverse. thats chess with consequences. you don’t get to call it “boring” if you’ve never:
-had your posture broken in guard
-fought off a rear-naked for 2 minutes while the crowd boos
-hit a sweep and heard your coach scream like you just won the belt
but with combat experience comes the appreciation of the arts itself. exceptions will exist but i will stick my neck out to say the ones who actually are practioners, do not seek pure entertainment in watching UFC for the call of:
“lay-n-pray trash”
“stand it up ref!”
“UFC died after anderson silva”
are almost always ones who have never step foot in a dojo to octagon in their entire lives. it is the sole reason i gave the exposition above because fan culture is quite toxic and to a greater extent, laughable.
have you EVER competed or sparred in MMA/BJJ/wrestling (even amateur)?
A) yes – multiple times
B) yes – sparred/rolled but never competed
C) no – but I train striking only
D) no – i just watch
if you argue against this please use reasoning and logic not your irrelevant MMA background because mine is just as irrelevant. im a striker first and foremost who taps often and see the art in even the grappling exchanges i cannot perform myself. we are speaking about a forum who had an entire meltdown over an absolute killer not choosing to risk his fighting legacy over the fact that one eye was not optimally functioning (which is everything in elite combat hierarchies let alone the best striker in HW). how in the world do you question the heart of a man who is doing what you never are willing to do? how do most who practice the same art as Cyril Gane not prone to understanding that eye pokes with an open handed stance will happen and often do?
call it pretentious but im being nice here. what im actually saying is this is my summoning of the ones who fight here, will see the appreciation in every fight because combat practitioners and a large sample size of them do not seek entertainment in other men fighting they see it for what it actually is. i cannot convince most thrill seekers otherwise and im already anticipating how much hate this will get.
last night wasn't thrilling but it was complete and utter domination in the finer intricacies of MMA and this is coming from someone who predicted JDM would win and while I admit the Khamzat-DDP fight was devoid of any entertainment its constant flux of grappling exchange was a craft in itself and once again, the ones who have BEEN in such situations, wont bitch and moan like most did here for a month. you dont hate dagestanis you just hate the change of the MMA status quo and that they've done what they've done and embarrassed your favourite fighters. i merely accepted it a year or two ago.
i say if you're angry over a fight being boring find greater thrill in your life or actually do so within a combat centre itself believe me it is more of a thrill than watching any of your favourite fighters/highlights will ever be once you have the courage to stop spectating men who are doing what you never had the courage to do, and actually try your hand in it. please be honest with yourselves and after you're done finding every reason to hate on what is said here, wonder why you suspect your gf cheats on you (she is) and go out there and do not waste your prime, and stfu.
like this if you are a true combat practitioner and being here for a year i spotted immediately the ones who do. you can lie on the forum but believe me lying to yourself is thrice as damaging. no there is nothing special about being that guy who also watches the early pre-lims.
thank you, sherdog.
